    Hey people,

As some of you may know, I'm involved in running the Poker Soc in Aungier St,
coming up at the end of the month is the National Student Poker Championship, its due to be a historic event and all DIT poker socs have gotten heavily behind the event.

I am looking to send a once off email to all students in DIT notifying them of the event, I tried sending it to allstudents-list@dit.ie but the message was denied, it was probably identified as spam or something as im sending it from a gmail account, is there anyway to get around this or do i need to contact the college tech department?

Would it work if i sent it from my own squirrelmail account?

    Cheers for any help

    Luke

i believe the email user has to giver permission to be sent mail like that. after your soc mailing list, ya could get in trouble, that happened to friend in trinity

i wouldnt advise using it to advertise a society event, ask any of the staff from the socs office, theyll likely tell you dont do it.

if people are interested in poker they either already signed up to your society or will notice the posters (im assuming) you've put up around the college.

    dont spam the allstudents list

Your best bet is to ask Teri or Anita in the societeis office. Although i'm fairly sure they'll say no.. It would be unsolicited mail and therefore not allowed. The other thing i'd suggest is either getting it advertised in the compact magazine or simply creating a bebo and adding everybody to it.. leave comments everywhere so people cant help but know about it... Its allstudents-list@dit.ie
I wouldn't say it would be a problem since your promoting a registered dit society

It is spam and COULD (most likely) get your society into hot water. Email MUST be opt in and what you are doing is not opt in and will most probably end up in complaints and it being brought to the admins attention.

Your email account would have to have permissions to send to that list. Permissions are not given out easily to prevent people using the list regularly.
