Just curious about the decision making process wrt the port tunnel v moving the port. I could think of a dozen good reasons why in theory the port should have been relocated, was the process well thought out, or did it come down to Dublin port not wanting to do themselves out of a job?

There was never any serious discussion over it.

I wonder why they didnt consider putting the proposed metro north into the port tunnel project too. It goes a pretty similar route. Would have saved a lot of money, perhaps.

TBH considering the two would have vastly different requirements (tunnel width, segregation, etc.), I don't think that would have saved any time/money/digging at all really.

The route is not similar at all.
