So I'm buying a Macbook from the apple on-line store in May and I'm just curious, is it actually worth getting the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) for the extra cover?

Yes, although I've never had to use it, I know friends who have. You'll have one year from purchase to think about it away. Is your SSIA finishing May? :) Keep in mind that Apple's next OS Leopard should be out around then, so don't buy before it comes out.

Yeah I'm going to wait till Leopard is out, I'm just hoping that'll be May or before ....lets hope it comes out after the WWDC tomorrow :D

Yes this may be SSIA related ;)

I'd bet money it wont be out tomorrow. Are thinking of vacation as well with that SSIA? Because, you can save big time by getting it the states. Thats what I did. My MBP cost me around 1,600 euro last June. The money I saved payed for my trip. Also, all portables are covered with a world wide warranty.

I could be heading off on a trip, thing is it may be to Las Vegas and last time I went their I couldn't find a decent electrical store to even buy a iPod in...nevermind a computer.

No Apple stores in Las Vegas sadly :( [edit] Oh wait there is now! (http://www.apple.com/retail/fashionshow/week/20070107.html)
hmmmm maybe might go down that route

Could get the highest spec Macbook for 1500 dollars or 1,154euro from the store or the lowest end MBP for 1500e, not bad

But what happens if I bring it back to Ireland and something breaks?

It was the better graphics card that made me go with MBP and the express card slot, oh and the fact that I could choose not to have the gloss screen. Saying that, the Macbook is a nice machine. As far as if it breaks, like I said you get a world wide coverage on portables. Applecare is cheaper in the states, but I think you need to be a US resident. Thats was okay for me because I just used my parents address. There were a few people on the boards here awhile back that reported they bought the Applecare over and say they haven't had any problems with getting there Macs repaired. You might want to check that out though. The biggest thing that worried me was customs. I went over with copies of my back up discs and loaded stuff onto the laptop so it looked like I had it for awhile. I bought a nice laptop bag in the Apple store and came though customs with it in the bag. It turned out to be over kill because there was no one checking in Dublin anyway.

I wounder do they allow pre-ordering of MB or MBP's so I can be sure its their, might call them...
