Speakers

Guys, I have a Dell Inspiron 1300. As you can imagine, the sound out of it isn't exactly A1, so I'm looking for an external set of speakers to listen to music with, because I'm not able to handle how poor the sound is, hence I'm throwing everything onto CD and listening to my stereo.
Thing is, I'm fairly Lo-Fi - don't have a clue about what to buy, what not to buy. Can anyone tell me what I need for a decent sounding set-up (sub-woofers? speakers? what do I need? Try keep it cheap ;) )

    Cheers.

Having bought a few shít pairs of speakers over the years, I believe good sound doesn't come cheap.
Save yourself a lot of farting around and get a Creative X-FI of some description and plug in a set of €400 Logitech or Creative surround speakers.
If you buy crap; you end up buying twice.
Of course the sky's the limit with audio equipment, but I'd be happy enough with the above when it comes to a PC.

Cheers man - no that's good advice. I want something that doesn't sound like it's coming out of a tin box, but actually sounds like it could be a stereo, so whatever the price is, I'll pay it, I guess. Rather than, like you said, having to buy twice.

If you are listening to music perhaps a surround sound system is a bit OTT

I have THESE and they are better than my 'decent' Sony hi-fi.

Others may have different suggestions :D

Once you listen to music in CMSS-3D there's no going back ;)
Tbh I'd miss not having music coming from behind aswell.
And it's handy to have for games/dvds.
Personally I wouldn't be without surround.
But then, for the money you'd spend on a 5.1 set, you might get a superior 2.1... tough call really.
