I imagine it would be very hard to find lessons for something as obscure as a didgeridoo since its really just a breathing technique which needs to be learnt

Here's something to get you started:

GStormcrow is right. The hardest thing is the cyclic breathing. Its great when it comes together but consistency is essential. I can get the drones, additives, harmonics - all the fun stuff but the best cyclic I've managed is around 3 minutes. Thats not good enough as a one off - and I haven't managed to get the technique back again. Mind you, I've not tried for months now - I'm trying Tuvan Throat Singing.
    Good luck!
    Have you got a didge?

    Tuvan Throat Singing

Is that the kind of singing damien rice does in part of Cold Water?

sorry, never heard a Damien Rice track. yeah, where have I been?
its the ability to produce harmonics in addition to a base note from one voice.
Very much like the didge (voices created from mouth control and additional notes) but with a high control of the mouth, throat and exhalation. Needless to say, like the didge, I haven't mastered the thing yet.
Didge and throat singing are like the bagpipes - unless those around you love the sound, its hard to practice and get appreciative comments back. My missus can't even detect the harmonics produced so she'll never appreciate the skills or effort applied in practice. Now a drum - she can understand ...

Aye got one off the girlfriend for christmas,
There was a note put up in Tambuli for didgeridoo lessons but it was put up about 2 years ago and theres no answer from the numbers listed :/
Have tried a few websites but I always find it easier to learn from someone rather than learning from reading!

Thats the only way to learn really, from someone else. Books and videos are fine but unless you ask questions and get feedback from the tutor, you get into bad habits.
Got my didge from Queensland on my first trip to Aus. Heavy bastard with very deep tone. Have difficulty playing it with the front of the mouth as the opening is so wide and the note so deep (think it rips too much of my breath away). I therefore play this one from the corner of the mouth where I somehow get better control - probably a skill picked up from dribbling beer in the past whilst pi**ed.

I've only a limited amount of experience with the didgeridoo, but I'd be surprised if there were any teachers around, what with there being no real repetoire for it, and they come in different shapes and stuff. But it souldn't be too hard to find someone who plays it and would be willing to give you feedback.

Hi just joined this site tonight and just bought my first didge 3 days ago, I'd be extremelly interested in joining some sort of group to learn how to play. Anything going around anywhere that people know off? Fascinated by the sounds it can make.

    Hi, old thread I know.
Buy did anyone find somewhere to get lessons or a group of people who are interested in learning? I've been trying myself with instruction vids on youtube but I'm making very little progress.

Hey, I play. Not experienced at teaching it but I am playing for about 10 years at this stage. I am based near killester. Cheers, Derek.

Yeah I'd be interested in the workshops anyway! Don't think I'd be much use for the concerts or stuff. Still a complete beginner.
