I use "The Unarchiver" myself on my macbook. It not only unzips compressed files it also allows you to choose the destination of the unzipped file

    WEbsite here

It might be of no concern to you but I have always found it annoying that you can't view the contents of a zip archive prior to unzipping. Windows treats the zip archive as a folder which you can view.

You can get the same functionality (albeit in a more cumbersome manner) on your mac by following the steps from this website

The above website has a load of tricks and tips for mac users.

I use Stuffit. They have a free Expander that'll handle .zip files, but also .sit, .tar, .sea, .bin, .sitx and a heap of others.
