I am wondering if there is an inexpensive software solution to transfer all of my applications from my older pc ( running xp ) to my new pc ( also xp) without having to do it from original cd's etc, as i have lost half the original packaging and activation keys etc.

Alternatively could i add my old hard drive as a slave in the new pc and work from it without booting from it?
Old drive is 20gig 6 yrs old , new 250gig sata

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

i dont think there is anyway for you to transfer applications tbh.. you will have to install all your apps fresh on the new pc..
and you could put the second drive in as a slave but you could not run the applications from it.. they would be missing registry info and stuff and wouldnt launch.

Look up ghosting the hard drive afaik you can do it with free tools. (basically it photocopies your pc onto a new hard drive)

I've never toyed with it so maybe others could give you pointers but i think it may be the way to go.

no that cant be done that because xp recognises hardware changes and wouldnt boot.. it would just go straight to a bsod. that could be done just to make a complete backup of the old drive but still wont be able to run apps from it.

All the apps will be configged for the old computer so running them on the new one will be hit or miss if you ghost. The best option is to reinstall
