DVD drive not found

Recently bought a graphics card for my Dell, installed it and since then everything has started to fall apart!!!

I had to disconnect the power from the DVD drive as the power cable wasn't long enough to reach both the drive and the graphics card.

I restarted and tested the graphics card out on a few games and it works fine. I then bought a power extension cable and reconnected the dvd drive but it isnt showing up. Its not listed in Device Manager.

It opens and closes fine so the power is working and if i put a disc in it'll spin for a while and then stop.

I've tried changing it from 'master' to 'cable select' but its no different.

    Anyone have any ideas, cheers.

Make sure you didn't knock the IDE cable out of where it is attached to the motherboard. Does the DVD ROM show up when you bootup the computer? Like in here for example.

Ya im with Ruu on this one. Make sure that the IDE cable is connected to both the drive (securley) and also the motherboard. Iv had similar problems because its fairly packed inside my case, with wires crossing each other etc so it can be pretty confusing and easy to loosen a connection.

Its all connected up securely. When you say Bootup do you mean when the pc is turning on? If so I dont get any information, black screen until i get to the log in.

Ok try entering the BIOS at bootup (Press DEL, F2, [insert other key] to enter BIOS should be listed on your screen) and see if it is listed along with your hard drive.
