Well seeing as post-flop its the worst possible position at the table you can see his point. The whole keep the pots small oop theory. A very good starting hand is generally best in a race situation so if there are limpers and you are holding KK for example in the small blind and elect to just call, you must have the discipline to get away from the hand if you dont hit a K on the board. However if you hit your K you are in an incredibly powerful position as no-one is putting you on such a strong hand.
Playing post-flop from the small blind requires huge skill imo which i don't yet possess so if my hand is big preflop I'm generally putting in a big raise to try to reduce it to a race situation with one other player. I don't play many hands from the small blind.
Its a similar conundrum when you elect to limp with AA UTG but no-one raises for you and you end up in a multi-way pot oop with a hand you don't want to lay down

Our position isn't getting any better after the flop. Are we allowed raise any streets from the SB or just the river with the nuts?
    Take it as it comes.
