VERY dodgy "mp4" players.

I was given an "mp4" player by a friend to fill up with some old classic hits.

My friend had bought it for himself as a Christmas present.

This guy, unfortunately, knows absolutely nothing about ipods, computers or anything technology related (hence the fact he has given me his "mp4" player to me to fill.

So I get the damn thing hooked up to my lap top and start loading it up with a few tunes (it says in the manual that it supports mp1, mp2, mp3, wma, wmv, asf, wav and amv).

I start to realise that this "mp4" player is a bit "bogie" when I see that the display screen contains some rather 1980's, Sega Master System, Chinese style graphics when switched on. The packaging is also very suspect.

Once loaded with the hits of the 70's, 80's, 90', and today I try to have a listen to some of the songs. I notice that the navigation is almost impossible to figure out. I eventually manage to play a song, but I don't know how I did it!

I have since spent an hour or so trying to figure it out. I decided to "carefully" read the manual. I generally don't need to read them due to my technological experience(!). I discover the manual is not written in proper English.

Quote: "Welcome to choose our produce, please read manual carefully".

Another reassuring quote: "Functions and performance may change without prior notice".

And Just below - "If any difference between produce and manual, please visit our website" - bizarrely, there's no website on packaging or manual!! (there are many other grammar errors throughout the manual)

    I posted this because:

I tried googling similar products/problems but not a lot came up (my friend will need convincing that this player is a heap of junk - he paid around €100 for it).

Also, I'd like to know if anyone else has heard of similar products.

I'm going to tell my friend to return this "mp4" player. I will name and shame the store in due course (somewhere in Co Louth).

    All replies appreciated.

    Yours,

    Ed.

    Thanks for the link.

All of those look a bit better than the one I have!

I'd love to find a price for this one online. I've managed to crack the screen somehow - he probably won't be able to get himself a refund now anyway! He's gonna kill me

Tried googling "fake ipod" - lots of interesting articles but still no mention of this one.

    Cheers,

    Ed

The player your friend asked you to fill up is a generic design that lots of companies have been selling as their own. It's an awful player.
