I hope this is in the right place - mods please feel free to move as required.

And before anyone starts - I do not have any connections with the companies mentioned.

The mission : a sun holiday to tenerife in June cheap. 2 adults and a child. Cheap because i get away 3 - times a year by making my money go further.

Last year I got Caribe Apts, Los Americas in Tenerife which was the cheapest in the budget sale for 1000 euro. This week the sale started again and the same is 1400 euro - ouch!!!

Can i beat that by booking myself ????

Went to aerlingus.com, flight out 12 June back on 26 June (tuesdays) includes 3 suitcases (charged for) and all taxes 492 euro all in. Searched the millions of apartments online and in buyandsell and found they were all from 250 euro per week, basic furnishings and "out of the way" i.e. up near the water park above los americas. Then I found an apartment I looked at the photos and said WOW. Then the number and said thats local - I live in Tallaght! Rang him up lives in Rathfarnham and works in Tallaght. Struck a deal with the guy over the phone 500 euro for two weeks!

So now I have what looks like a luxury apartment in Los Cristianos, Tenerife with air fungus direct flights for under a thousand. What a saving. The transfer i paid for to the airport last year when i went was 25 euro so add fifty quid to the bill.

It certainly pays to look outside the box and do your own thing.

    here the apartment.....

Best to try all of the main holiday companies Airtours/Panorama, Sunway etc.. I wouldnt do a Budget Travel holiday if you paid me , last two times with them were a nightmare and wrote into customer services and they didnt even reply!!! They advertise all these tacky ads on TV and how they are so much cheaper but I have done some family holiday comparisions and Budget Travel has not come out that cheap and on some were over 100 Euro more. Its all a big con.

There is a new company called XL and I got a great deal with them . www.xl.com not sure if they do Tenerife but I ended up booking Santorini for Eur 299 all in !!!

Tried Panorama and all the rest and then looked at this XL. It only offered my lanzarote but the price was over 700 euro each - then the site crashed....... server error......

Thanks for that superscouse, this is the guy you rented from and would you beleive that someone actually contacted me because of this post.
Yourself and the other person have been the first two from Ireland that have contacted us so its a thing the irish have not fully copped onto yet.
Heres an Irish Site that just started and hopefully wil get bigger http://www.rentourholidayhomes.ie/
I'll be getting a second one there later next year because its been such a good pay for its self investment.

If you time your holidays right this is a great way to get a cheap holiday.
I see prices of 1900 etc for 2 adults 2 kids
If you go this way and for instance pay 300 for an Apt a week then on average for the year 250 a flight(can get 150 off season) then you have 4 people @250 + 300 a total 0f 1350 which maybe cheaper if the child is under 2 liker mine.

    www.ownersdirect.co.uk
    www.holidaylets.net

Its the new way to go since the advent of so many direct flights to tenerife etc

Just some of the sites that have cheap apartments all over the world.

Of course my lovely on in the first post.

I'd be glad to help anyone out and not just with my own, just advice on how this works as I done it before also.

    Just PM me.

It seems to me that we are just starting to see a new way of booking holidays. With the start of low cost flights direct with Aer Lingus and Ryanair, it is now very possible to put together an excellent package for a reasonable price.

One pitfall I have spotted already though, anyone thinking about hitting Tenerife (Los Cristianos or Playa Los Americas), Ryanair fly into Tenerife north airport - TFN, while Aer Lingus Tenerife south airport - TFS. Tenerife north is maybe two hours away and would be a packet in a taxi. Tenerife south is about 15 mins away by cab and is about 25 euro.

The north airport is now easier than that. The TF1 moterway goes most of the way there and its only about 40 Min's to there now from south.(about 50km)
It used to take an age and some parts of the island still do via the old routes. If you want to go to the north west of the island it nearly quicker to go the opposit way aroiund the island on the moterway , via the east coast as the route is so much quicker.

I'd say but maybe wrong its about 45 in a cab.

    I'll find out.

I stand corrected. When i did it last year, I was on a coach that was stopping all over the place collecting people on the way to a park at the north of the island.
