I know where the adam and eve idea came from. 6,000 years ago the symbol for man and woman was created. its the isreal flag the one with 2 triangle. the one pointing down is the woman and the one pointing up is the man. what else was, according to the bible, created 6,000 years ago. the world and man and woman

i'm saying that someone put names on each triangle on the symbol for man and woman, which was created at the same time as the adam and eve were supposably createed

And your archaeological evidence for this is? I assume you have some, as otherwise it would be an incredibly daft thing to post to the Archaeology board.

But it's a really interesting idea, isn't it? It's nice to see a new idea for a change. Keep on thinking, Inspector.
Did they have flags at the time of Adam and Eve, do you think? Maybe that's what they wrapped up in when they snuck out through the gates!

    Not true.
This was calculated by the biblical scholars from the 'Adam beget Abel and Abel beget Jeremiah and Jeremiah beget Abraham' etc etc lineage.*

They took an average generation of 20 years or so and multiplied it out.

They didn't take into account that men are reproductive through their entire life, which could triple the length of a generation depending on social custom among other things.

There is another school that believes the human lifespan saw a gradual decrease from the near-immortality of Adam and Eve to the few decades of a well-fed animal that we enjoy. This would allow generation gaps of centuries if not millenia in the earlier stages.

AFAIK theres nothing else in the bible to put a time-frame on its early history of humanity.

    * No, the names aren't accurate but thats the gist of it.

However, on a more serious note, Inspector's post has got me thinking. What do we know about the history of the star symbol, if that is what you are talking about, Inspector, the Star of David on the Israeli flag? Is there any work that has been done into the origins of this symbol? I have never studied either archaeology or religion, but members of the family have, and they thought perhaps you had a good idea which you weren't expressing too clearly. They're used to me, you see :)

What I find hilarious is that the op (hopefully) knows the star is called the star of david, yet links it to Adam and Eve. Wtf?
Anyways, to the poster who's interested, here's a link; http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/star.html Remember, google is your friend.

Thanks, Brian, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'll be interested in this.
I actually felt I was a little mean to the OP. We don't all express ourselves as clearly as we'd like. To someone who hasn't studied archaeology etc. formally, it's probably a little intimidating to come on a forum like this and speculate on an idea. It's like when you think you've written a great essay in college, and the tutor makes it seem foolish and worthless. I don't want to be that kind of person.
Going to check out your link now!

i'd have to aggree with inspector. i found out that the symbol was created 6.000 years ago and it seems too much of a coincidence not to be true

How/Where did you 'find out' that factoid?

Am I missing something? A coincidence is where 2 or more events are linked. Whats the coincidence here?

Oman, you know the Genesis story is just that, a story, don't you? So it is interesting where the story came from originally, of course.

Regarding the Israeli Flag, I would suggest
    http://www.science.co.il/Israel-flag.asp
or even better the Israeli consul in Dublin.

The Isreali flag is absolutely nothing to do with the fantasy story regarding the purely mythical people called Adam and Eve.

The actual star of David, no one really has a clue where it originated. It is an extremely ancient symbol and possibly either very early Jewish of even pre-Jewish in origin. No one actually knows. Its earliest proven connection with Judaism is around the 8th to 7th century BC, with indications of a bit older.

    Regarding the issue raised.

Adam and Eve is purely a work of fiction.

Adam and Eve had two sons and no daughters.

I can safely say that puts paid to the book of genesis having any basis in reality, unless they were using some extremely advanced genetic engineering and incubators to grow babies from artifially created embryo to the size of new born infant. We still do not have the incubator technology to articially create a womb, yet, although we are slowly getting there.

The majority of the bible is purely fiction. Only some parts of it are historical in nature. The bible was created at the council of Nicea in 325AD, taking the bulk of its books from the Jewish religeon and adding in some other books, while editing large tracks of the Jewish religeon to fit in with Roman ideology, as Jewish religeon had inbuilt respect for women, a group that the romans considered to be property, amongst there hatred of a few others as well.

When looking for facts in the real world, I would advise avoiding the bible and checking with other sources as it is probably the most heavily edited book in the hisotry of the human race. It has changed content so much since its original incarnation in 325AD, through translation errors and molding to roman ideology, that it is unreliable for any purpose inlusing that of belief systems.

As for what else was created 6000 years ago.

Lots of symbols were in use long before that.
    Examples would be the:
Vinča culture, 8000 to 5000 years ago
    Starcevo-Criş culture 9000 to 7000 years ago
Linear Ceramic culture 8000 to 7000 years ago
Comb Ceramic culture 8000 to 5000 years ago

There was a lot around before 6000 years ago.

This sounds like something straight out of Dan Brown's imagination. But interesting none the less. I like the idea that nobody can really say for sure where the star of david comes from.

The Star of David is probably more related to sacred geometry than any Genesis myth. It's been used by many ancient cultures, mostly pagan, just like the cross has.

ok so i've found out that David wrote the Book of Psalms or at least edited it so whats to say he wrote drew the star to describe how, shall we say, children are made and as already stated by Hyptia it was edited at the council of Nicea in 325AD. i'm still working on that thereory so bear with me

EDIT: Just found out the name eve means living and Adam means earth. Living Earth. if anyone finds that interesting. ps dont no how realiable the source is

I think if one looks at the date of inception for Hob Nobs biscuits and the OP's date of birth, they'll find an interesting correlation.
