Maplin 3.5" LAN Hard Drive Enclosure

Maplin are currently selling an external 3.5" LAN Hard Drive Enclosure (enclosure only - no disk) for 58.99. These normally retail for around 99.

As a USB2 enclosure the price isn't great, but when you consider you can connect it up to you network and use it as NAS I think it becomes a bit of a bargain.

You set it up with your browser and it supports SMB and FTP. Only catch is that if you are using it in LAN mode you must format the disk as FAT32, so the maximum file size is 4GB. Also you can't use LAN and USB at the same time. It also supports HDD idle power down so the unit can power the disk down after an idle timeout.

I used to use a Linksys Network Storage with an external USB drive connected to it - but I picked one of these up at a previous Maplin sale a while back - and I've found it far far superior.

Joy. Another thing that I don't need, that I must buy. Might pop in and take a look tomorrow.
