Hi Sarah, It really depends what time of the year you are wanting to travel. If you are looking at travelling from about 10th Dec 07 onwards then £1,027 is not too bad. It may get a bit cheaper in some of the seat sales over the next few months but not by much. If you are looking at travelling before 10th Dec then I would suggest this price is expenseive and I wouldn't book now. Typically how the long haul carriers work if that they set their 'published fares' for a rolling 11 month period. These fares will be the most expensive (which is what you will be seeing now for next Nov / Dec). Then as time goes on the airlines begin to focus on load factors between now and the next 5 months. If they see that they have 'soft' load factors during the next 5 months they will introduce seat sales to stimulate demand to fill the 'soft period'. As such, it may be advisable for you to weight until April / May / June if you are really wanting to secure the best fare.

I hope this makes sense and helps.

You may wonder why I know this - I am CEO of http://www.australiatravelmarket.com and have worked in the travel industry for the last 15 years selling airline seat. Any other questions just let me know.

yeah im looking for something for around 13th oct - 13th nov not exactly peak times!! i see places advertising flights to perth for 600e including taxes and charges, but whenever i click on them, the price always jumps up!

i even tried booking for london thinking that would be chaper, but that seems to work out dearer if you take into account the sterling!!!

so you would reccomend me waiting a few months then? however i dont want to wait too long, for fear it will be dearer or worse i wont get a flight!!

Just wondering how much did you end up paying for the flights?

I just booked Aus -> into Cairns from Heathrow and out of Brisbane (suited out itinery better that way!) with a 5 day stop over in Tokyo for 1170euro and have the feeling we may have paid a bit to much :o Although it was at fairly short notice, leaving on Oct 18th and coming back December 15th

Its crazy some of the prices that Usit etc charge - one quoted me 1700euro for return from Sydney, do people pay these prices?

The main problem is the price of all the taxes added on to the fares. They can range from 200 up to 350 depending on the airline and route taken.

EUR1170 is ok for October. I paid similar for Sydney next February and paid 2000 last xmas but that was mainly because I booked late. Both with Malaysian as they consistently have the best fares from Shannon or Cork but they have prob the highest taxes of nearly EUR360.00.

Travelling anytime around xmas and new year, going or coming, just increases the fare also as the flights are so busy, unless booked early enough of course.

Very interesting reply (from Dave Simmons - CEO)! Although from his post-count looks like he hasn't been on here in quite a while - unless he's a 'lurker'? :)

I'm booking similar flights myself soon. I had a look on his site, but I'm told usit are having a sale and that they would be better value.

Time for a post over in Travel (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=37) methinks!! :)

The cheapest way you'll get to Oz is by first bookin the cheapest flight to Singapore ONLY for this part of your journey there's loads of choice you should be able to find a good deal its a real international hub think Malaysian airlines are good.

Then from Singapore book a Tiger Airlines Flight to Perth(there a new low cost carrier) for example had a look on their website Singpore to Perth on Dec 8th is 94euro one way you won't get a flight like that cheaper
