    Folks,

Due to problems with connecting to the internet at the moment(see other thread...) I need some assistance in transferring a file from my pc over to the mac. I only have a 256mb usb key and no cd/dvd burner but the file is around 600mb(large video file). I can split it using winzip and bring it across in parts but am running into trouble trying to join the parts back together. Any idea on how I can overcome this problem. Cheers....

    Edit: 100 post. Whoopee!

Are both of them plugged into a switch / dsl router ? There is an ftp server built into macOS , so you could upload to that .

Fraid not as distance between them is too far. Looking for a nice easy solution like joining the zip files back together if its possible.

Stuffit for Mac and Windows will do this. Its docs say it will join files but doesn't say if only its own format or .zip as well.

Does the PC have a network (ethernet) card? If so just plug the machines together and the PC will show up in the Network in the Finder.

u might need to start windows sharing in the network preferences to get it working..but the network route is definitely the best way to go! easy and quick

When starting the mac hold down the key 'T',
essentialy this should turn the mac into a plug and play HD.
Simply connect them together using a firewire cable.

Now I could be wrong but I use this when transfering large files to and from my two Macs...so hopefully it works with a PC?

The OP says the distance is too far so I guess that means too far for Firewire too, if indeed the PC even has Firewire, it's not a standard feature yet like on Macs. Add to that the PC may not be able to understand the filesystem - requiring some other MacFS enabler like MacDisk. Good thought though as many don't realise that Firewire makes an excellent 400Mb/s networking media, and with it being standard on Macs and - unlike USB - full duplex, it's very fast too !!
