Converting external drive from Mac-format...

I have two firewire drives that I have used with my iMac.
The drives are formatted in "Mac-format" and I cannot access the data on the
drives when I connect them to a Windows machine.
Is there any way of converting the format of the drive so that I can access them from a Windows box?

    E.

You need to format the external drive using FAT32 on a windows machine first..... see http://guides.macrumors.com/Drives_and_Filesystems

software called Macdrive allows you to read the data on the drive from a PC

Otherwise set up a network between the Imac and the PC using a crossover cable and then you can copy the info across

But then I wouldn't be able to access the data anymore would I?

As I understand, the file copying will be inevitable in order for the FW drives to be accessible from Mac OS and Windows......

Install Macdrive on your Windows computer, and you'll be able to access it from both your Mac and your PC, without reformatting.

I think the point he's trying to make is that the Mac can read and write to Fat32 drives, so if you back-up the data then format the drive with FAT32 in disk utility then move the data back you can read and write on both platforms. Currently the Mac can NOT write to NTFS volumes but only read them.

MacDisk will work too but you need to buy that, WUSBDesigns suggestion will cost you nothing.
