hmm so what was the style change while they were inside the cylon ship all about, the slowness and the piano music? I didn't really get what was going on in the first ep of this two parter and it didn't really get resolved in the second.

I could see the never subtle social commnetary in the battlestar plot but not what was happening with the cyclons visualising etc etc, and how they have become so vunerable and infighty, not very scary cyborg like?

hmm have to download the ep commentary

I'd appreciate it if you pass on any insight you may find there/

I appreciate the whole 2 episodes: the fact that they visualise is a wonderful insight, though its probably purely due to their mimickery of humanity: another brilliant insight.

Thats pretty much the whole point of it, isn't it? The 2 eps were pretty much lined out to flesh out the Cylons a bit: Get through that iron-clad exterior and get into the juicy stuff.

Also, I found the Bastestar AI to be very interesting: something almost 'poetic' about it.

Personally, I found it to be a bit derivative of a million other SF shows. Most immediately the oracle in the recent Tom Cruise/Speilberg turd.

The ideas behind projecting were that the cylons had this really cool thing they can do to keep their mind occupied, and to drop the tiny little bombshell that Baltar may be a cylon, one of the final five (he's been projecting since the miniseries, if you include the random appearances of six that only he can see, though his first proper projections started in 33 when he imagined he was back at his house on Caprice with 6)

As for the hybrid, she was intentionally styled after elements from the matrix and minority report. Why spend ages explaining "Well she's got a humanoid body and she's hooked up to loads of machines that she uses to control stuff" when you can explain it all in the appearance of the hybrid by showing the audience something that they instantly recognise and understand? The show ALWAYS runs over time and has to have scenes cut, so would you really want to lose another scene just so you can say "Oh well the hybrid was really original, too bad they had to spend 5 minutes explaining it because the entire thing was too subtle for a lot of people to understand what the hell she was"?
