Second hand servers

This is a bit of a stab in the dark, and this should be posted under hardware but it really doesn't fit the catagories. Does anyone know of a company/person who deals in second hand hardware. I wouldn't mind dealing with someone in the UK as long as carriage isn't too pricey, but if anyone knows of an Irish firm that would be great. Failing that if anyone knows of anyone wanting to off load an IBM eServer XSeries 205 please point them my way!

I found one for sale on ebay but it was in Melbourne Austrialia!

Thanks for reading and any help!:D

    JB

Is it the full server you're after or just some parts?

I am after a scsi 36.4Gb hard disk but going by IBM parts prices I would be better off buying a whole unit! Do you have anything suitable?

Check out www.dabs.ie. They sell various scsi disks. 15k rpm 36G ones for around 200-250 euro (no IBM ones, but if it's for a raid array, it might be cheaper to buy a few replacements?). 2nd hand hard drives in a business environment is asking for trouble IMO.

OK - I have one here, but a quick search on the web reveals that these guys have stock of new ones for $74. I've no idea if they'll ship it to you or what, but maybe it's worth a call.

If you still want the one I have, let me know.

Thank you all for your replies, I am going to look into the links posted. The computer giants link looks quite promising. I will definately keep you in mind SwampThing, I did want to stay away from 2nd hand drives but couldn't find any cheaper than 365GBP direct from IBM, hopefully now I will have some luck with the info given.

    Thanks again,

Dont know if this helps you but in the past I have dealt with a crowd called PPT (formally Livingstone) which were good at sourcing HP and Sun UNIX servers and parts second hand. There number is 01 6203354.

One word of warning, check with your maintenance company that they will support the hardware after you replace it. Some may only support hardware that is purchased from certified resellers. Some may charge an inspection fee before they will put it on support.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for all the posts. I got two disks ordered from computergiants.com, it will be handy having a spare kicking around!
