STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):\System Root\System32\Config\SECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

From google I reckon its the HD& bad sectors.

Its a HP Desktop. Win XP P4 with HT

Having problems with it for a while.

    What do people think.

This can be fixed. You will need to boot from the XP CD and when asked selected the Recovery Console. Then run CHKDSK /F. This will repair any bad sectors it finds or at least try to recover data from them and mark them as bad. After this you should be able to boot to Windows again however you may have lost some of the Security hive in the registry so I'd then recommend an over the top reinstall.

I tried doing the suggestion above.

It asked my what I wanted to log onto. By pressing 1 I got to enter admin password. I entered what I thought was the admin password and nothing happened (enter it wrong 3 times and you restart).

Any one any idea what this pass word should be?
