    Hi folks,
I bought a sagem freeview set top box last time I was in Newry. I set this up but can't pick up any channels. What am I doing wrong? I live in balbriggan. the roof aerial picks up NI analogue TV and irish channels fine but when I plug in freeview box nothing. Do I need to swing the aerial around to another direction? its presently pointing north, I'm not sure which transmitter its pointing at.

Do you get Channel 5 from Belfast? I think this is key to knowing if you will get freeview. Even weak signal on channel 5 will confirm that you are picking up the right aerial

It may not be possible. There are even some places in NI that can't get FreeView. Straban is one that I know of.

A lot of people in north county Dublin get their UK analogue 4 from a relay in Kilkeel (good sea path)

To confirm that you are getting your signal from Kilkeel, can you check your aerial to see if its vertically polarized (rods on aerial are up-down)
Divis, the only tx you could get Freeview from is horizontally polarised.

Lads, look at the title. He wants the DCMNR-sponsored DTT trial.

It's hard to say what's wrong. I've found cable length/type to make a huge difference. I get full signal in one room but another room served with an amp and then 20 metres of cable gets nothing at all. I lose about 10% signal from using a standard flylead instead of a satellite cable lead I made up myself.

Plug it into the TV point which gets the best reception out of the lot. Your aerial may be weaker at picking up TV3/TG4 but that won't matter so long as RTE1 remains perfect.

Try to use the manual channel selection and put in Ch. 53 to see if anything shows up.
