Hi everyone, there are 3 of us heading to Liverpool to catch a game but
none of us have done the trip before:

    1. For the tickets for the game, I was gonna just ring the hotline 18 days before the game. Is there a better way to get tickets?

    2. Which is the nearest airport to fly to? I want to keep costs down, so Ryanair flights are preferred.

    3. Can someone recommend a B&B or Cheap Hotel near anfield or the City?

Many thanks for any help you could give.

    Hi...

    1. I think you now need a fancard before you can buy tickets. You can get these from the site for a couple of quid.(http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/tickets/fancard.htm)
    2. Liverpool from Dublin, other alternatives would be Manchester but thats not ideal (car hire? we had to do this once). Or the Ferry into Liverpool.
    3. Try Liverpoolhotels.com, last game I went to at short notice and couldn't get a room in a liverpool hotel was working in Leeds area at the time I wasn't too bad. Book hotel as early as possible.

is this for the sheff united game?

you dont need a fan card to buy tickets but tickets go on sale to fancard holders 3 days before general sales. so tickets could be sold out by the time they are on general sale.

It takes about 4 weeks to get a fan card.

You can get the ferry to Holyhead and train to Liverpool for €66 return. Its a pretty good deal. Thats what we did the last time we went over. At the time we were booking (last May) there was no ferry going directly into Liverpool that took foot passengers, but there might be now. Check Stena Lines website.

We stayed in http://www.travelodge.co.uk/ which was pretty decent.

    Thanks Guys.

The travel lodge looks good - how far is it from the city/anfield/trainstation?

If I got the ferry, how long is the train trip to liverpool?

The Ryanair flights are very dear - do I have other flying options (other than Manchester)?

Thanks the help, really appreciate it.

There are plenty of touts at Anfield, just walk up and down the road at the Kop end a couple of hours before kick off and you'll find tickets for a small game like that one, it will be a lot more difficult 2 weeks later for the visit of Barcelona.

IIRC we got on the ferry at Dublin at about 11 and arrived in Liverpool train station (sorry forget which one it was, it was right in the city centre tho) at about 4:30. Its a grand trip tho, you can have a few pints on the boat. We got a taxi from the travel lodge to Anfield, only about 15 mins or so.

If you are thinking of a flight versus the ferry in terms of time travelling, remember that you will be at the airport well before you fly, and you can be waiting on your bags at the other end. the airport is a bit outside of liverpool so more time spent getting a bus taxi, so although the bus/train option might not look to good, for the price you pay and the time travelling it works out very good imo.

For that weekend you've got the option of flying into Blackpool airport on the friday and back the sunday for 60 euro with Ryanair, train from Blackpool to Lime Street takes around 40 minutes costs around 5 GBP.

As said above Travel Lodge do rooms for 60 GBP per night, no frills. To be honest you'll be lucky getting some cheap accomodation the 7 weeks before the s***e play at home.

www.celtichorizontours.com do a package via ferry for two nights staying out near the airport for approx 400 euro. Needless to say it's sold out.

You've not really given yourself enough time to plan a cheap trip.
