Cant go into a lot of details but a good friend of mine recieved some nasty comments via Bebo from someone who's profile is on private.

The problem is the comments were notable personal and very painful.

The user has been reported but because of how personal the comments were my friend would like to find out who that person was.

Does anyone know any way I can help.

The best I can think of is seeing if anyone here has access to the page, which for that to happen you either need to be the person's friend (which means unless you too feel like they are being a jerk you wont help.) or being in the same school or college as them (if they are signed up to one.)

    so...

if you can see this profile: http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=3070980524

and you feel the person in question doesnt have the right to abuse other people and then hide behind their computer could you PM me with just the name, that will be all that is needed.

    Thank you.

I'm trying my best to approach this in a sensible manner.

if your not a friend of this person, then you wont be able to see it

but you can see it if you are both signed to the same school or college.

I think the most sensible thing to do is forget about that person, they're obviously lowlife and a waste of time. Dont sink to there level, you've reported him/her, Bebo will most likely delete there account.

True, if they've spent time insulting someone for no good reason then they aren't worth a thought. Hope Bebo sort them out, good luck.

There isn't much more anyone can do, if the person is known to your friend then it's unlikely this is his or her genuine bebo account is it not?

BTW, there is a method of reviewing posts before they become visible on your page. See bebo, i don't know how to do it.

Yes, there is a premoderating comments option, which I feel should be enabled by default on minors accounts.

i tried to get into that through my bebo but its private, sorry. i actually thought this thread was about jeremy beadle when i saw it first

Wouldn't worry about it, Bebo deletes abusive users quick enough. I've had enough Bebo accounts deleted for posting (un-serious) abuse on others profiles, so I'd imagine the person behind the one you're dealing with will have theirs removed unless they stop post haste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭Dan133269

OP as far as I know Bebo won't delete the person's account until they receive 10 reports of abuse of the person, and then it's just an automated cancelling of the person's service, I doubt anyone actually personally goes through the reports. So you could just get 10 friends to report abuse as quick as you can and the person's account will be deleted.

Also myself and my friends have accessed other people's bebos before which have been blocked even though we weren't friends with them or part of the same college or anything, maybe it's a glitch with bebo or something, but after trying a few times we accessed accounts that were private, so maybe if u persist. Best of luck anyway, revenge can be so extremely satisfying!

tbh just bin the mail and forget about it. If you had to give the idiot a response it would be something like this. (I have it on form mail ;) )

"I don't know who you are because it looks like you don't have the balls to actually say who you are. As such your opinion means dick to me. I am now blocking you and I am afraid your going to have to find someone else to validate your sad existance. Bye! ^_^"

personally and in my own opinion, i don't think asking and Internet forum to find out the name of a person so you or your friend can take whatever revenge/action is "approaching this in a sensible manner", but that is only my own opinion.

What i would do is ignore it, tell you friend to ignore it and move on like a adult.
don't get drawn into a Internet slagging match.

If you're not going to ignore it, would you not just got the dirty old man route and create a new profile as a girl with some sexy pics and ask to be his friend?

Get your friend to delete the comment (click view all, then you can delete any comment you wish to) and block the user. Problem solved.

Reporting the person should be sufficient. Ignoring them is good too. Worst possible case scenario, your friend could sue in court for libel (but these web cases are new and hard to prosecute, especially if they cross international boundaries). Hacking/cracking Bebo security to establish the offender's identity should not be allowed, is against their policy, and may be illegal (civil or criminal).

    Good old keyboard warriors.

Obviously the abusive poster doesn't have the balls to say what he/she thinks in person so hides behind a keyboard and monitor.

Their opinion shouldn't matter. As sjones has said, just block the user.

Just get your friend to switch their profile to private and then no one will be able to leave comments unless they are linked to them as a friend. Thats why private profile was created - to avoid problems like this.

Why no just stop using Bebo altogether?

You can block them from leaving comments even if they are blocked

I reported a user before because their name was dirty perv or something and they commented my younger brother really sick perverted stuff, and bebo did nothing about it for a long time. I know it was probably a joke but it was sick

There's some ****ing weirdos on bebo I tell ya.
A complete stranger somehow got 100% on one of my friend's quizzes, then asked her out...
I only managed 38% on the same quiz:p

    Hi,

If you go into My Account on Bebo
Within Email Preferences there is an option

Review Profile Comments and White Boards - Approve new profile comments and white boards before showing them.

Click on it and problem solved!
