    Hi All,
Been away due to a busy Christmas but am back. Seems like months since I was here last. I spotted this sniper rifle over on Gunner's and was wondering if anyone has ordered it from there or any other website. Clone of VSR10. It got good reviews on Arnies but according to Gunners it shoots at 400fps. A video on You Tube claims it will fire at 1.6 to 1.9 j which would put it outside our power range but I dont know how reliable that is. Either way its a fine looking rifle.

    Maybe Fung could downgrade it?

he'll downgrade it for ya for 25$ if ya ask him nicely on msn. I had to get him 2 downgrade my mp5 as it shoots 350-360 stock.

I hear Fung is no longer doing upgrades as of last Christmas, probably applies to downgrades too. :(

Yeah might ask him so. But I am right in saying 400fps would go over the 1J limit arent I.
Did some one have a calculator on the go to change fps to joules? I thought I remembered someone with one befor.

Yep, 328 fps is 1 joule.

I was also looking at this but I wasnt sure because of the power output.I think Ill go for the M50 rifle just below it.Looks like a nice piece of kit though!

According to its spec, it also shoots at just above our legal limit or just very close to it.

    328fps with a 0.2g bb.

Yes I dont think some people realise that the legal fps changes when you use heavier bbs. Or lighter bbs. Some websites seem to measure the fps by .12g. This could obviously be legally over the 328 as it's lighter then the standard .2g.

I ringed the numbers closer to 1 joule. You can see the fps really drop drastically when the bb gets heavier. You can see now why being a sniper is impossible :D .36g bb at 250fps is 1.25joules. Wah.

Thanks Oisin, That is a very helpful chart. It should be stickied. So if we promise to only use .20g ammo or lighter, then technically we could get a gun that fires at 400fps with a .12g bb which would be below 1j.:D Right so what are the customs or ballistics guys using to chrono the guns when they get them. The rounds supplied or are they using their own?

I actually do know it changes depending on projectile weight. I assumed everyone used .20 as a base line, obviously not though.

OK But when they are chroned are they using the .20 baseline or are they putting everything through them from .12 to .43.

The reason for asking is if we buy a gun that is sold to us on the .20 baseline and we belive it to fire at 1j but customs here chronograph the gun with a .23 bb then it will put it over the 1j limit.

If they actually knew what they were doing they would weigh the bb before hand to actually get a result. Remember the fps thing isnt mentioned in the law, its "with a muzzle energy of less than 1 joule". If I was performing an experiment/test I wouldn't just presume that a confounding variable like that was something because "its the most common".

It doesnt matter what fps the gun outputs at. If its output is under 1 joule, it is legal. If it outputs at under 328 fps with a .20 bb then it is legal. If it does that, it means anything it outputs with is going to be legal. If it shoots 328 with a .20 bb, it mean it's going to shoot about 250 with a .36 or whatever. It is all relative. Doesnt matter what grade of bb you are using. 1 joule is 1 joule. your rifle isnt going to suddenly output at 1.5 joules simply because you're using a heavier bb. It'll output at the same joules. Just a lower FPS. Because the bb is heavier. Hope that clarifies it!
