I was wondering what retro games people are playing from yesterday? These are ones I am going to completed before getting distracted by something else. :D

Rick Dangerous - Amiga and C64. It's incredibly tricky on later levels.

Rocket Knight Adventures - Genesis/Megadrive. Quality game.

Little Computer People- C64 - Strange thing, not really a game.

Fantastic Dizzy - Megadrive. Go Dizzy, Go.

Dark Seed-DOS game (trying to get it to run properly, shock to my brand new computer) freaky game, hard to get used to it.

    Spy vs Spy rules all.

    Spy vs Spy rules all.

My favourite spy vs spy was the second one... The island caper. In 2 player games I loved setting up a dozen traps protecting a piece of the rocket or simply just booby trapping it. Remember the rope up a tree trap? ha ha! lol!

Against the cpu, just wait for him to get the rocket ready and stab him when running for the sub. :D

The artic one was my next favourite. I like the map size to be as large as possible. Now that would be fun with winvice netplay on port 6502.

I had the Artic one. It was actually great fun playing with my mate, this could be worth playing over the net.

    Let's go... ;)

Open a port (default is 6502), start the server in winvice and let me know and I'll try to connect. :D

Rodland: Used to love this on the C64. Great game.

    G Darius: Excellent PS1 shmup

    Radiant Silvergun: Sublime Saturn shmup

Zelda: Majoras Mask: Back into this after twilight princess. Very different from other zeldas but by no means any less brilliant

Phantasy Star: A real level grinder of an RPG. Looks gorgeous for an 8-bit game.

You must be pretty feckin' good at Zoids. I never got anywhere with that game, despite really liking it. I was (still am, actually) just rubbish at all those minigames you had to do to achieve anything.

    Anyway, my current list is:
    1: X-com:Terror form the Deep
    avechq2x0.jpg
Not quite up to the original, but not far off. Proving frustrating at the moment because the horrible tech tree has a way of stymying progress.

    2:Megaman X2:
    Foto+Mega+Man+X2.jpg
I've been getting the old Megaman itch again lately, and I don't feel I gave this much of a chance first time around.

    3: Metroid 2:Return of Samus
    screenshot_metroid2.jpg
Yeah, currently I'm all about the sequels for some reason. The only 2D Metroid I haven't finished, so I'm starting it now.

    Trode,

Zoids is pretty easy once you know what's going on. In a nutshell:

    * You are a weak blue zoid (blue square)
    * Aim: Get 8 zoidzilla pieces. The 8 pieces are buried under 8 cities.
    * There are 8 sectors.
    * There are 4 cities in each sector. Only 1 city in each sector has a piece of zoidzilla. Cities are those yellow squares.
    * Each city has 2 spineback zoids (red square) to defend the city when attacked.
    * Each city has 1 slitherzoid (red circle) that resupplies the city - including any zoids you destroyed! So important to kill these first. These go from the city to mine.... and back from the mine to city. Repeat. These have heavy armour. Tougher than Spinebacks who are easy to kill.
    * You kill using the railgun icon. Click on the icon and then select the zoid. You get about 30 seconds to take a zoid out. It returns to the main screen then.
    * You can use missiles to soften a target first. Normally I fire 1-2 missiles at the slitherzoids.
    * Best way to clear a sector is to kill all the slitherzoids first from a distance using 1-2 missiles and then railgun. You try to attack each as it leaves the city to the mine. This allows you maximum time to destroy them... since if they get back to their city... spinebacks are dispatched to deal with you.
    * Once you have the 4 slitherzoids destroyed you can take your time at each city.
    * After dealing with it's 2 city based spinebacks, each city can be destroyed using at least 4 missiles and then railgun. Otherwise you could jam the city shields and then use 1 missile and railgun it to rubble. It's easier with jamming. Warning: The local radio station sends out SOS messages after the city has no more spinebacks. The other cities then send spinebacks to your location. Hence the good idea to destroy ALL slitherzoids first - otherwise zoids are replaced.

    * Check the city rubble. If you find a piece... congrats and move onto next sector. Only 7 more to find. When you have all pieces you face Redhorn the Terrible. Defeat him and you win the game.

Thanks for the advice, but I kind of get how the game works. It's just the little action sequences for actually hitting things that I fail at. It's pure cack-handedness, I admit, but I can't hit the side of a barn with a missile, and I can kill a Hellrunner, and maybe a Spineback, with the guns, but that's it.
There's a cheat-enabled version of the game linked on that thread though, which I might give a try.:o It's quite a well-designed and intricate game once you get into it. Also, Zoids had the coolest names ever.

If you can hit a hellrunner or a spineback... you can do it. Just fire 1-2 missiles at the slitherzoids. Then their strength should be only 75-50%. I have to admit you need a joystick to do it since the keyboard is quite hard to react to the electromagnetic resistance of the zoid's shields to your railgun. There are days when it takes a few goes to kill a lowly spineback even. But really just use a few missiles to make it easy. I could never kill a slitherback with railgun alone. Maybe back then but no way in hell now. :)

I was going through my mame roms and game across a game i hadn't played in years... Blood Bros! It's savagely addictive in a cabal, blow the sh*te out of everything kinda way:)
Dyna Blaster also got a run out this week after a mate was talking about Bomberman on the snes. It has to be one of the greatest multiplayer games of all time!

Final Fantasy 7 on the PSP (using the built-in PSX emulator).

I never got to finish the game the first time around. I got to the start of Disc 3 and my save file got corrupted!

Almost 10 years later and i finally got the courage to restart! I'm halfway through Disc 2!
