I am still on the 30 free trial for office 2004. I did not get to use it much yet, just made it active 3 days ago. first problem today, cant print while on trial.

anyway when i clicked buy, i saw a software ( which is due out soon ) called 'virtual pc7' it looks awesome and sounds fecking fantastic.

So i said i would come in here to my mac friends and ask if anyone is using office and do they have a program like vitual pc to help them and how do they like it / find it ?

I'm guessing that if you are on the free trial period you're using a new Mac which is an Intel based machine. If that's so then VPC won't work. All is not lost though because you can use Parallels Desktop or Bootcamp and install Windows and run it much faster than Virtual PC ever could.

Virtual PC emulated an Intel processor in order to run Windows very very slowly IMO. New Macs of course are Intel based so no emulation is required - it will run natively.

Parallels Desktop can be found here.

Bootcamp is free from Apple here.

Of course you still need to by a Windows XP Service Pack 2 license.

    Hope this helps.

thanks very much ZENER. that was a great help.

you are right , i have a new intel mac. I have windows service pack 2 installed already.

I am no genius at computers, anything i know i thought myself or was told by a friend or someone here in boards. I have not got a clue what to do at times. I make a guess most times. I am new to mac, i was a windows person for 7 years.

I will install parallels. so i all i need is just office for mac 2004, thats great, thanks ZEN. just as well i asked.

Parallels is a fantastic product. You can literally run Windows, even Vista, and Mac OS X simultaneously. And because it uses vitalisation, not emulation, there is little performance penalty. Although as you're running two operating systems at the same time, I recommend having 2 GB of RAM for optimal operation.

Parallels is a fantastic product. .
Agree totally - brilliant bit of software. Only have a gig of ram but works very well for my purposes.

If you plan to run games then better to use Bootcamp, Parallels Desktop doesn't get direct access to the graphics system so 3D and Games won't be too hot on it. I think other here have already found this out.

I opted for Bootcamp myself. There is only one app I use in Windows so I would need the whole machine for it and that's Cool Edit (or Adobe Audition as it's now called - mores the pity because they destroyed it IMO :( ) Office - Photoshop - DreamWeaver etc. all run on Mac so I've no other reason to use Windows !
