You will get no papers and no insurance company will give you any discount for dealer "restricted" bikes (such as the one you are talking about).

AON will give you a proper discount for Factory Restricted bikes.

For example my FR SV650 is group 5.

There are no papers for that either - they can tell by the frame/engine number as it is listed with the manufacturer (in my case Suzuki).

yeah i know what you mean but AON only insures restricted bike if they are factory restricted, witch the one i want is not. and sukuzi bandit only came factory restricted from 02.
so if they dont ask for any papers couldn`t i just try to get insured on this bike with no restrictions???

    thank you for your help

I was in exactly the same situation. Don't go with AON. Shower of w@nkers as far as I'm concerned.

Call Carole Nash and ask if they would insure you on a restricted Bandit 600 but not factory restricted. If they say yes, buy the bike and go to a garage and get it restricted. It's expensive enough (around €200/€300 EUR fitted) but it must be restricted, it's the law.

    No,

Aon will only quote you a group 5 price if the bike is factory restricted.

They will quote you a group 9/10/11 price if the bike is dealer "restricted".

CN will quotey you the group 9/10/11 price regardless of how the bike is "restricted".

Sorry stefano to burst your gripe with Aon but them is the facts.

As far as I am concerned CN are the bigger rip off artists because they have no interest in discounting for advanced training.

This is a far bigger concern because training helps reduce their costs charging for FR bikes as normal just increases their cash intake. They take but don't give.

Well there are 2 insurance companies. One gives me a quote. The other one tells me "we can't insure you on this bike"... Of course I can't stand AON!

As regards training, I don't think I'll be getting any so I'll never have to/want to deal wih AON which suits me just fine.

I had my restricted Bandit 600 insured with CN before at the group 5 rate.

Well to be fair, one gave you a quote, and the other just didn't humour you with a token quote.

You were a provisional licence holder, with 0 experience, buying a "restricted" (not the quote marks) bike. Of course they can decide not to bother with you.

My only point is that people should not just get a quote of CN just because you say so and "hate AON". There are currently 2 insurers like you said, everyone should ring both for every new application and every renewal.

Play them off against each other and get yourself the best deal. Even if that means switching every year. You might find that at some point AON actually are cheaper for your experience level / bike combination, and I might be with CN at that time.

They could have given me a quote as opposed to "we can't insure you on this bike". Why not say "that will be €6000 per year 3rd party"? What really annoyed me was the attitude of the girl I had on the phone. A real snotty b!atch...
Bad experience = I'm sure as hell not going to recommend them!

The OP mentionned in another thread that he "rang for a quote on a bandit 600 restricted and they won't quote him unless it's factory restricted". I recognised the AON trademark remark so I advised to avoid them like I did!

This can only be done if both insurers agree to insure you in the first place...

got my provisional licence type A.
rang CN and i got a quote for the bandid 600, 900euro third party. they will insure me with my licence, and the bike doesn`t need to be restricted to be insured.

but thats alot of money just to be driving the bike on weekends

Are you 50 years old or something? How many years no claims do you have? Did you get a quote for a "week-end only" insurance or something?

€900 is nothing! I had to pay €1600 when I had a provisional and it went down by only €150/€200 EUR when I got my full license!

    €900 is cheap in Ireland!

(And I was right about Carole Nash vs. AON Nereid! :p )

Well, I'm 26 with no NCB so not much of a difference there... However, I'm in Dublin and my Bandit is a '02 which cost €5000 EUR... But this couldn't explain such a difference in quotes! You must live down the country?

True that it doesn't need to be restricted to be insured, but the insurance is only valid for a vehicle that you have the correct licence category for.

on a provisional you only have permission to drive a bike in category M,A1, and A(i) which is the <25kw / .16kw/kg restriction.

Factory restricted is all that means anything.
No offical system is in place to check bikes for restrictions, exhaust noise, emissions or illegal modifications, restriction is a dodgy area.
Pretty sure all an insurance company will do is ask you to sign to say you have the bike restricted, some people lie, theyre bad bad people

In germany the police have bike testing units.
We're lucky we're not so heavily enforced.
