Q : Is Guinness always good for you ( taken in moderation ) or are there any downsides.
    Look forward to views.

I suppose anything in moderation is not bad for you. Its not doing you any harm if thats whats worring you.

Taken from wikipedia (taken from the VHI)

Contrary to popular belief, Guinness is not a good source of iron, containing only 0.3 mg per pint. Given that the RDA (recommended dietary allowance) of iron is between 11 mg and 18 mg, the amount contained in a pint of Guinness is trivial. In comparison, a bowl of Weetabix contains 4.2mg of iron, meaning that a person would have to drink 14 pints of Guinness to get the same amount of iron contained in one bowl of Weetabix. Source: VHI (VHI Healthcare)

I did however recently read on the VHI website that beer in moderation is good for you.

Very good indeed, I have often wondered about the iron content. I agree things in moderation would usually be ok.
What about other ingredients , what else is in a pint. I have heard people say Guinness does not agree with them at all. What chemicals etc are in there.

FYI - Here is a comparative nutritional info sheet.

BBC News had this good news in 2003.

Beer is good for you in moderation. It has vitamins, minerals, soluble fibre, etc. Guinness has all this going for it, but unpasteurized, unfiltered beers are better for you again. They still have yeast in them, which is an excellent source of Vitamin B and a few other bits and pieces.

So drink bottle conditioned beer. It's pro biotic, so it is.

Wardy, you have a whole keyboard in front of you, people do not like to read text speak, you're new to boards so maybe you don't know this.
Do me a favour and don't use text speak on boards it only annoys people.

Consider this a warning, in the nicest way possible.

That explains a lot - I thought I'd wandered into the Polish forum for a minute...
