Possible to stain pine to maple colour?

Hello, I am currently removing the builder's paint splashes/residue from my stairs, which I guess it is pine or white deal wood and would like to stain it very slightly to match the maple flooring at top and bottom of stairs. The 'light oak' stains I've seen might still be a bit too dark. Does anyone know of a stain that might do this? Thanks ...

The pine will mellow over time and turn a golden brown, so any stain you do apply may look ok now, but will be a little darker in a few months or so, especially if the stairs are in an area which is getting a lot of natural light and/or heat.
