Hey, just wondering if someone with more experience could help me out. 3 of my friends and I signed up for a volunteer program to teach English language classes in Brazil, starting on the 20th July 2007 until August 1st 2007. I take it there are no flights from Dublin - Rio (must be Rio) so where do I go about looking for a flight to Rio or whats the first step? Thanks.

You'll have to take a stop over, from what I see on expedia.com, Air France fly from Dublin->Paris (CDG)->Rio De Janeiro

The IATA code for Rio is GIG. I've had a look at Amadeus and it recommends 3 main routes which are Air France via CDG, Iberia via MAD and BA via LHR. Need to be careful with BA as it operates to Sau Paulo daily but the flight (BA247) the alternates daily between Rio and Buenos Aires. The iberia flight is not daily either

The long flights are as follows, all times local -

Flt No Freq Deptime Arr ti stops total duration
    AF 442 D 2315 0520#1 0 18JUL07 25JUL07 14:05
    IB6801 1357 1205 1840 0 25MAR07 26OCT07 14:20
    BA 247 257 2145 0800#1 1 25MAR07 19OCT07 17:00

I went with Air France via Paris last summer, flew into Rio and out of Buenos Aires, cost €620 inc, all taxes etc, you should keep an eye on AirFrance.ie as they have really good offers from time to time.

As well as the usual Travelocity and expedia, I found sites below good for getting long haul bargains:

    Orbitz - http://www.orbitz.com

    Cheaptickets - http://www.cheaptickets.com

    Yahoo - http://farechase.yahoo.com/
