Ok so here's the deal. My friend got an ipod for a christmas present and her computer is broken. So I offered to put all her songs on her ipod from my spare computer. I installed Itunes on it. Anyway my question basically is that when she connects her ipod to her computer, can she sync whats on her Ipod to her Itunes without looseing whats on the Ipod?

I think that she will probably have to move the files off the Ipod using a 3rd. party utility as the Ipod syncs to a single computer - your computer in this case.
Senuti is one such utility for the mac - I would guess there is an equivalent for windows.

    All the best.

There's something you have to do with iTunes to do this - can't remember exactly. If you don't, and try to sync the iPod with a different instance of iTunes, IIRC it will delete everything from the iPod! :(

Well having moved from PC to PC with my iPod, I don't actually see what use synching is... I just drag and drop new music, doesn't take 2 secs.

You have 2 options Donnybrook Ghost.

Option 1: Manage all songs manually and avoid the sync option. To do this you must tick the manage songs manually option in IPOD options.
This is the method I use and I agree with Kold, it is easier as you can then drag and drop within itunes regardless of computer.

Option 2: Take all the songs off your friend's ipod using ephpod/podutil/winamp (options in the FAQ). Then you need to import all of these to the copy of itunes on your computer.

Can anybody help? bought ipod today.downloaded 4 songs from itunes.displays on screen 'DO NOT DISCONNECT'. This has been on for nearly 3 hours. What happens if I disconnect and how long do I have to wait? I'm a complete technophobe so any help will be appreciated

you need to eject the ipod using the eject button that is in the bottom right hand corner of itunes, it is also beside the iPod as listed on the left hand panel of itunes. Clicking either of these buttons will ensure you do not damage your iPod

If you do not eject safely you can corrupt your iPod.

You can disconnect it in iTunes or at the remove hardware screen (click on the logo beside the clock if youre on windows)

So basically what you's are telling me to do is, go to options when the ipod is connected and tick the box for manually manage music and videos? Will this let my friend to copy the music I put on her ipod to her hard drive on her computer, without deleteing everything off her ipod?

    Sounds about right.

Yep, that's it. It means that nothing goes on or off the IPOD without you doing it manually.
With that ticked you just need to open itunes and select the songs in your library and drag them to the IPOD in the left hand pane.
