Ok have the LCD now to buy the speakers on a stand

Have a voucher for the giftvouchershop

Going to buy the front speakers first and then see about rears etc

Was looking for wireless but they don't seem to be out there and if so not that good

The only place I can use the voucher is either Argos, Peats or Harvey Norman

Have the Argos book and see some Wharfadale, acoustic solutions and Ministry of sound

Anyone have any of these bought from Argos and if so what are they like ?

Not looking for a thump thump wake the neighbours just something with a good sound

Have to check out Harvey Norman in the week and Peats look a bit more expensive

    Anyone got any ideas

wharfdale are ok, Peats do them as well and they also have JBL which I'd rate higher than the Wharfs. Harvey is a robbing git with a limited range.

I just remembered Lyric HiFi on the edge of Belfast (quite an easy drive from Dublin). They have secondhand trade-in stuff at http://www.lyrichifi.com/specials.htm and it's mostly good. Prices are sterling so add approx. 50% for Euros.

one note about wireless speakers, they dont exist as you still need to plug them into the mains which often looks a lot worse then a small speaker cable.

I like peats but they can be way over priced, my projector there is 2000, on komplett ita 1400.

thinking of getting the Yamaha Av59

    http://www.yamaha-uk.com/av_packages/?product_id=138

I have a voucher for Peats thus the reason getting them there. Sounded good in their demo room downstairs in Parnell street

Yeah looked into wireless and no great reviews on them and very expensive

Thing is I was looking for floor stands for the speakers which they don't have. Are they any stands that are spurious for any type of speaker

Avoid the acoustic solutions thing argos sell (for 120) like the plague. It...
    • Has only analogue inputs - i.e. six cables going from your dvd player to it... if your dvd player happens to have 5.1 analogue out
    • Mine (2 weeks old) has stopped outputting a signal to the front right and left speakers. The speakers work fine when i plug them into the surround left and right outputs.
    • Part of the fascia fell off as i took it out of the box.
    • There is no adjustability in the thing. No menus, no nothing, just 5 knobs on the front.
    • The sound from the woofer is terrible... it gets overwhelmed with anything approaching a bass sound.
    • the sound from the speakers is terrible - popping and white noise.
    • The speaker wire supplied is a "generous" 5 meters long.
    • It cannot be turned fully down. It has a big "Volume" knob on the front. Guess what... turn this all the way down and there is still sound coming through...

    So basically, its ****.

Lesson learned... you cant get a decent home cinema for 120 euros! There may be ok ones out there at this price, but im returning this pile of junk and getting myself a decent system elsewhere.
