MCE Unsuported region format

    Hi guys

    My problem is somewhat similar to Franksm’s (see http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055024973)

    I built myself a fairly high end PC and used an AverMedia Hybrid DVB-T/PAL (A16AR) tuner card for TV reception.

    I don’t have SKY or NTL – I am simply using it with terrestrial TV!

    It works fine with the Aver software and GUI – but that is really hard to use on the TV screen and I would like to use MCE. My problem is that I get the familiar “Unsupported Region” message for Ireland when I try to set up “My TV” in MCE.

    I saw that the answer to Franksm’s problem was to install a video decoder – but I have Nero installed and can watch DVD’s with that – also I can watch TV using the Aver software.

    It seems to me that there is some setting in MCE which prevents setup working in Ireland?

    I also tried telling MCE that I was in the UK and that I did not want to use the EPG. It scanned the HW but found 0 channels 

    The A16AR tuner card is MCE certified according to Aver website.

    Thanks

    timmer

    Hi timmer, assuming you have installed from a europe disk and are using MCE2005 you may need MCE Rollup2.

    It is an optional update under windowsupdate. After installing this, be to resart Media Centre setup to setup your EPG and tuners correctly.

    Try downloading another decoder just to be sure. You can get a couple on free trial. Not all the Nero Decoders will work with MCE.

    The Nvidia one is here

    Here is the reply I got to a similar problem:

    Uninstall the K-Lite codec pack it causes more trouble then it is worth by installing redundant and duplicate codecs that conflict with other codecs in the system.

    In order for DVD's to be playable in MCE you need an MCE compliant DVD decoder. To check whether your Nero decoder is compliant download the deccheck utility, install and run & it will tell you if it is MCE compliant if so click the box to set it as your preferred decoder.

    {FYI the Nero decoder isn't compliant last time I checked}

    Compliant decoders are:
    NVIDIA Purevideo
    ATI AVIVO {Free with an X1K series GPU}
    Cyberlink PowerDVD
    Intervideo WinDVD

    Once the K-Lite package is gone from the system install one of the above to get DVD playback in MCE. For other media playback install ffdshow & Haali Media Splitter & AC3 Filter and you can handle pretty much everything.

    As for the Vista upgrade it only works as far as I know if you go through the PC makers website for instance Dell only recently enabled Euro customers to purchase the upgrade but it will not be posted to them until February.

    I would imagine Sony's site is not yet up to gear for the upgrade process which is why it didn't work your best bet is to fire off an email and ask Sony when will it be operational or as to why it isn't working for you now.

    I was abl to choose a compatible nero codecnas default, works great now.

    Thanks all - but so far no joy.

    I downloaded the MCE Rollup2 and re-did the MEdia Center startup - same error when I specify Ireland as the region. (I also still get zero services if I use UK as the region)

    I tried the NVIDIA decoder; set it as preferred using decheck. But I still get the same problem.

    I read a response, by SC, to another post where he said that some tuner cards are MCE compliant for Digital but not analogue. Maybe that is my problem ? Does anyone konw how I can check this? I have emailed AVERMEDIA support.

    Thanks again,

    T
