wasting my time?

I like this guy for the last few months and as far as I know its mutual but i feel i am doing all the chasing and making the effort etc. He is quite laidback (or lazy) and there is a bit of a distance between where we live. I recently got tired of putting all the effort in and getting nothing in return, and although he agreed things wouldnt work because of distance and stuff, he left messages after nights out apologising and wanting me to give him a chance. Later I discovered he didnt remember what he said in those messages, and now i dont know if what he said was what he truly feels. I just feel like sometimes Im wasting my time and perhaps I am, but part of me wants to give him a chance if he does want it, but then again nobody can change. Advice?

If this is how he is now, imagine how he would be like as a bf after a year or two. People do change, but not everyone and most times not a lot.

If he believes a relationship can't work because of the distance involved, then I'm afraid you are wasting your time. Long distance relationships can work, but both parties have to want it to work and be prepared to put in the effort to make it work, but the guy you're dealing with believes that straight off the mark its doomed for failure, and as you said, hes lazy (i.e won't put the necessary work in that is necessary) so I can't see it working out tbh.

Yep, you're wasting your time. Whatever he says in drunken text messages, just ignore. If he wants you when he's drunk but then isn't willing to make any effort the next day then you know what that indicates don't you? He's not really pushed about you but likes having you around all the same. It's handy for him to have you as a part-time girlfriend but the odd meet-up suits him fine. If he really cared, he'd want to see you as often as he could and yes, he would make the effort.

if he's bothered (when sober) he'll make the effort. take no notice of him otherwise.
