    Can anyone recommend a good central hotel in NY? Im planning to head over in April and its taking ages to sift through the reviews of all the hotels. Something basic, clean and friendly will do nicely!

    We stayed in Pennslyvania while its not the best hotel in the world it would be a moderate standard but it was the cheapest we could find in a location that is 10 out of 10 it was smack in the middle of everything it was not four seasons but to be honest we thought it was grand but location wise and considering you will prob be only returning to your hotel to sleep perfect. It is a huge hotel and we were told if your room is not up to standard ask for change as they are constanly refurbishing but we did find our room okay

    @Trotter

    The New Yorker Ramada - its on 8th and 34th. I've stayed their 3 times, and its great, also has a 24 Hour Eddie Rockets style diner on the ground floor. 2 blocks from Macys and faces onto Madison Square Gardens. Easily walking distance from Timesquare and of course Port Authorithy (for when you want to go to Woodbury Common)

    Hotel 17 is also not bad. You're not going to really get anywhere cheap, but this one is cheaper than most, and is in a decent location and nice.
    Was used for the Woody Allen film Manhattan Murder Mystery apparently.

    We stayed there for a week.

    First impression was that it was like some block of flats from Cagney & Lacey! It grows on you very quickly and every floor has it's own artist!

    Fantastic diner around the corner too called Burger Best. Went there for breakfast everyday. The two women who word behind the counter are full of great advice on everything from local knowledge to what not to wear... One scary thing was the portions seemed to get bigger every day

    Sorry for taking you up wrong!

    The Holiday Inn Express on West 45th and 5th.:)

    Central, spotless and within striking distance of everything. The rooms are quite small but are fabulously well maintained. Hotel been up and running only about a year. Check it out on Trip Advisor. Includes buffet breakfast every morning too which is a nice touch.
