kickboxing/ mma westwood clontarf

Hi guys,

has anyone trained in or heard of a kickboxing/ mma club that runs in westwood gym clontarf?

I was given some private lessons to train there as a christmas present but i cant find any info on the web. Does anyone know what i could expect?

Yes...go for it man....kickboxing is great. its fun, will get you in shape. and no disrespect to other martial arts...but i always found kickboxing much more exciting to train in, than say traditional karate.

I think the trainer there is Padraic off RTEs "Health Squad" , hes an arrogant gob****e , but good none the less. He is a personal trainer out of that gym.

padraic is a kickboxer and does a bit of boxing training and is a lovely bloke-i used to work in westwood and thought he was always very friendly..i think he kickboxed at a good level but last i heard he was out of westwood? give it a go!

ask for a lad called derry temple.. I think he trains thai out there, he might have stopped it though coshis knees are bad, but i think last he said he was still at it

Derry Temple does One2One Muay Thai. He's stopping his group classes after Christmas though. Another guy called James does Kickboxing/Tae Kwondo One2One classes and I think he still does his group classes. Both are very good instructors.

The guy i spoke to is Alan (sensei alan on his fliers). I've been training in jiu jitsu(trad) for about 6 years and judo 1 year. Im hoping to start mma this month. Is this a pure kickboxing gym or do they train clinch and ground too? Is this a good place to start mma?

to be honest dermot... I'd say no...

an MMA gym in a nice shiny clean place like west wood... I dont think you be geting the right sort of people training MMA in there.... it might be a complete generalisation... and if it is I am sorry... might i suggest you try somewhere dedicated to training MMA

I agree paddy. Im planning to start training in sbg rathcoole this month but these private lessons were given to me as a present. I'll give them a go anyway.
