Yiz can all go to hell. I just won the "EURO MILLONES INTERNATIONAL PROMOTION PROGRAMME" and am now richer by "SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED AND TEN AMERICAN DOLLARS".

I've been instructed to keep it "top secret from public notice" and to contact my claim agent "immediately and without delays and complications".

Luckily for me, my surprise winnings are with a security company, and I'll be withdrawing their release fee this afternoon, in anticipation of being asked for one when I make contact.

I'd hate not to be prepared, y'know?

I think that's the 419 scam you're thinking about. I got one of these before by post. Was wondering how the hell they got my address though!

My address is spelt incorrectly in the phone book. I got one of these letters in September with the address spelt the same way, so that has to be how they got my address.

    For crying out loud......

    Sorry, best I could do.:)

the euromillions lotto in american dollars?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 42,127 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

It is in US$ purely because manipulating exchange rates can make the prize sound better
    715,810.00 USD= 541,366.34 EUR
The lottery is not as attractive as its made out to be but still, Devon is doing well!

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of it, but I use the 3V disposable credit card thing here, (http://www.3v.ie) the last time I signed into the website to check my balance they were running a competition to win €100. All you had to do was type in the last 3 digits of a current voucher, then complete
the tie-breaker. So I thought what the hell, and typed something like
'3v lets me get all my xmas presents quickly, securely and conviently'
and surprise surprise got an email saying I had won!

I wasn't sure if I had actually won, but as they sent it to my
registered email address, and called me by name, I thought it could be
genuine. I have done the I.P. checks I know of and it checks out as far
as I can tell. They said I will recieve my voucher soon in the post and
    the security details by sms.

I emailed them and asked if they could confirm it. They did! I couldn't believe it, I have never won anything like that. I got the security details by SMS the next day and the voucher arrived the day before New Year's eve!

I went shopping on ebay! Got a parafoil kite, Video iPod, (well Hong Kong copy!) and a 512Mb Micro SD card for my phone. So sometimes it is worth entering competitions.

I don't know. Word is 3v steals money from peoples accounts and won't let you get it back. They also break your legs when you can't pay and take your home. All in all a shower of scum by all accounts.
    DON'T USE 3V, THEY'LL EAT YOUR KIDS

Well they have to fund the prizes for these lavish promotions somehow....I mean €100 doesn't excatly grow on trees...

do you have to give your name, address and bank account number to the "security company" so they can transfer the money to your account, perchance?

Of course... purely for security reasons. They also require my passport, mother's maiden name, credit card number with expiry date and CVV2 code and my PPS number, just in case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,647 ✭✭✭impr0v

No, you have to post them your keys and directions to your house, and while you're at work they'll come 'round and deposit it securely in your safe (combination to be provided). Laser card and PIN number must be left on table as proof of identity, as well as deeds to any property and any female relatives bound, gagged and sedated.

I can't remember the exact figure now, but the old woman who is our neighbour once came across one of those free scratch card things, scratched it and was ecstatic to think she had just won hundreds of thousands of euro!

She rang my mother, told her to call over and made her sit down as she "broke the news". My mother was heartbroken to "break the news" in turn:D

You can buy a shredder for junk mail with your winnings.

I've often won loads of lotteries like that too. Haven't we all? :)

But, I did get 5 numbers in the Lotto once! €1020 into my hand, without having to make a premium rate phonecall or hand over my bank details or anything like that to claim it! :p

And how much did you have to spend on lotto tickets in order to get that €1020?! :p

I just won a piece of high end pro-audio equipment worth over €2k!! No, really!

For that specific ticket, very little. For that specific line, even less still. :p In the broader context of your post, yes I would spend a bit on it, but I have a lot of wins as a result. The people who say "I never win anything" are usually people who rarely if ever buy a lotto ticket or scratch cards or prize bonds or raffle tickets etc. It's the old thing that if you are not in, you can't win, or you have to speculate to accumulate.

    are you sure???.....

btw just in terms of the scam scratch cards you find in newspapers at al. How is that even legal?
Clearly the internet ones aren't, but at least they don't have the nerve to make themselves traceable!

Reminds me of the film Requiem for a Dream. Those who've seen it, you know the part concerning the mother. Can't say much or I'll spoil it.

Fcuk it Dudess, spoil away. coolsmileygirl spoils on a regular basis and is considered a demigoddess around these parts. Go on, tell us about the mother. Spoiling is cool.
