Playing a tourny approx 30 left. Top 14 paid.

The rule in this tourny is when the 2nd card is dealt to the button, if you are not seated - your hand is declared dead.

Blinds 500/1000 with 75 running ante.

Cards are dealt and the guy sitting in the cut off isn't seated when the deal is complete. However he gets back to the table before the dealer pulls his hand in.

Straight away I get a bad feeling (I know this sounds stupid).
I decide not to say anything in case this guy just folds - but if he enters the pot I'll lodge my complaint when the action comes to me.

Anyone folded around to the guy 2 off the button and he goes all in for approx 3500. The guy who's hand should have been mucked flat calls the bet. Straight away I thought to myself he's a big hand. The button folds and now it's on me to act from the SB. (I still haven't looked at my hand)

I now complain to the dealer. He says he doesn't know what to do (to be fair he was new). Some of the other players now get involved saying he's hand should be live as he was close to the table when the hands were dealt (this wasn't the case - he had gone to the bar). I suggest calling over the tourny director - however the TD is dealing on one of the tables as they are short and says to hang on a few minutes. Some of the other players now start to get annoyed so I reluctantly play on thinking I'll probably be folding anyway. I now look down at AK with a 19K stack. The whole thing has been a bit annoyed - I forget that my initial read on this guy was that he had a big hand. I shove all in to isolate.

The cut off then starts speetching me, asking me if I have him covered, is it for his whole tournament. He then says I think I have to call and goes all in. I flip over my hand, the other guy flips over J6o, lol, and the other player refuses to turn up his hand. Anyway - now the other players tell him he has to and he very slowly and reluctantly turns up AA.

    WTF?

would you feel any better if he was sitting at the table and played it the same way?

the time to complain about it is before significent action takes place, not after 3 people have put most of their chips in the middle.

The fact that you waited till he had pushed all in to complain made it suspicious and looked like you just didnt want to call an all in.

If you had mentioned it as soon as he returned to the table then there would probably have been little fuss,

You gotta decide if you believe in gamemanship or not. What he did was against the rules and no matter what the other players believe in, thems the breaks. Being civil aint going to help you. DEMAND that the tournament director be called over. If you dont DEMAND you deserve the b1tch slapping you got.
I played in a tourney where a guy had gone all-in then accidently mucked. Since he was a complete @sshole I made sure he didnt get his cards back.
Those bad feelings are an important part of poker. Trust your guts (especially after 10 pints and a large doner )

something similar happened to me. Same rules apply. I returned to the table after going toilet and my cards were still there when I returned. I sat down and had a look at KJ hearts. As i look at them someone pointed out that my hand should be dead but everyone agreed that I could play it if I wanted. I said no as the rules are the rules and if I won i wouldn't feel right.. so folded.......you know what happens dont' you?

Flop AhQh10s turn 10h river irrelevant!

I think you should have insisted on the ruling before any action happened...

    Mac....
