    I cant see anything that stands out from that tbh.

    I had a look around, and found some speed tests on your burnere here :

    http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=16894&PageId=8

    And for a normal dvd+r it shoudl take 6mins.

    I would try and update the firmware at this point.

    i have Sony DW-G120A MYS6 on my pc ...but i am unsure whether to install it .. i heard that if its done wrong it can seriously mess up the drive

    i got it from this site http://forum.rpc1.org/

    its reccomended by mediawrite, so i guess its reliable

    any advice on installing it?

    This is the problem;
    CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DW-G120A atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off

    DMA is disabled for the drive, go into the IDE controller properties in the device manager and enable DMA mode for the drive, it is probably running in PIO mode.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭billstraighten

    In the primary IDE channel ...i can only choose 2 things "Dma If available" or PIO

    i chose DMA if available ..and then clicked apply ..restarted ...

    i then went back in ...and the current transfer method is PIO

    is there anything i can do??

    check if there are any DMA/PIO jumpers on the drive and have a look in BIOS to ensure that it is set to Auto or DMA mode.

    On top of that remove the IDE controller the drive is attached to from the device manager so it will re-install the driver when Windows reboots, often this will cure the problem.

    Alternatively remove one of the drives sharing the IDE cable with the Sony drive and see if DMA mode then enables itself.
