    Hi folks

I am back again looking for advice. I am a Network Engineer (job title) with 7 years experience in this job and 2 years experience in other companies. I am back in college studying for my degree and am hoping to resit the CCNA (failed a few months ago) in the next few months. I am 29 years of age.

My current salary (west of Ireland) is €34,000 and I have been contacted by 3 different recruitment agencies wanting to send my CV to different companies for possible jobs. They have each told me that I should be on between €38,000 and €42,000 with the experience I have.

My question to you is what would an employer offer someone with my kind of experience? Am I getting market rate or should I be getting more?

Go job hunting and see what you are offered!

9 years exp and on 34k sounds low.
Is it 9 years experience in networking or since you started working?

Is it a case of more demand for such jobs there then there are jobs?

    Hey Moonbeam,
I have about 7 years experience in networking in this job and approx 1 year in another. I also have 1 year as a call centre admin aswell. From talking to some agencies they are telling me that they would pitch me around the €40k mark but Im not sure what I should be on. €34k does seem a bit low to me.

Does anyone know where I could check to see what the market rate for a Network Engineer is?

CPL publish a salary scale thing each year, though it's not always exactly on the ball. Check their website.

Will do. Thanks Seamus. Just want to have as much information as I can before talking to my manager.

    Woah now....
You have 7 years experience as a Network "Engineer", and you failed a CCNA. There's something not right here!

Oh an you're not an Engineer, unless you are qualified to be an ordinary member of Engineers Ireland.

Thats what my job title says and yes I failed the CCNA. As have so many other people. I am waiting to resit it in the next couple of months.

I am a Network Engineer (job title) ?

Well, the OP did say job title, When I did the CCNA the pass mark was 86%, so it's not a walk in the park.

    Experience can sometimes outweigh qualifications.
