Its not the batteries in my case the remote works fine with Wii Sports but when i want to play it in Red Steel the machine cant "find" it.

Happened once with me on Red Steel, I just resynchronised them on the main Wii menu with the Wiimote pointing at the screen.

Also, 4 player Red Steel on a medium sized telly is sh*te.
