    Hello,

I have a kitten that needs a home. He is ready to go straight away as he is fully weaned and toilet trained. I am keeping one kitten myself and have homed the other one so just need one more home. He is balck with a bit of white under his neck and is pretty lively but is also very affectionate. He is 11 weeks old. He gets on well with his brother so he should get on well with another cat but i would rather him be the only cat and definetely not be homed with a dog. If anyone is interested please let me know asap as he needs a home urgently.

Can i ask why are you rehoming him, do you have other animals. And why only cat and definatly not a dog?

Rehoming him as im keeping one of the kittens which is another male and they are already starting to get jealous of eachother for attention. two males does not work.

No dog because theres a dog a few doors down which terrifies him when he hears it and also i dont think cats and dogs get on very well unless you get them both at the same time. I just feel at the end of the day a cat will never be that happy with a dog. Maybe im wrong.

    Any interest in the kitten?

Did you just adopt the 2 and found it isn't working or do you own the Mum of the cats too.
If so I would recommend you get her spayed asap - she can come back into heat VERY soon and bang !

I might be interested, can you tell me where you are and if he has been spayed and had his shots yet ?

It can somtimes work if you get them both neutered and put in the work.
    For info - www.kittenadoption.ie
The forum there is full of people who can tell you the best ways to go about it. Its even run by an animal behaviourist who specialises in cats.

I have 3 adult males with no issues, it's the females who are ratty little beasts in my house;) My cats and dogs were all introduced to each other as adults too and are firm friends.

You should be insisting that the kitten is rehomed to somewhere he will have the company of another cat/kitten.

Oh the cuteness! I suppose it's a bit of a lottery though. Sometimes they'll get on, sometimes not.

The cat has no shots and is not neutered as he is too young(4 months). I live in Wicklow. If anyone is interested please let me know as i need to home him asap.

You really need to do some reading up on cats before you get anymore.

I got my 2 spayed at 8 weeks (recommended) and they had all their shots at 6 weeks.

Do you realise that a male cat at 4 months is mature enough to get a female pregnant ??

Well a vet said 6 months to me for spaying. Just so you know aswell i took in a stray mother and let her have kittens. I am keeping the mum and one kitten. I never asked for a cat but i took it in. I have had cats all my life and was just trying to find the kitten a good home. We have been very good to have taken them all on board.

All i was trying to do was get it a home. I could have had them all put to sleep if i had wanted.

so ktric your attitude isnt that appreciated. Anyone who did give me good advice thank you. Ktric you can go ban me now Mr moderator as your an a**hole who just went on about something you had no idea about. you didnt want a kitten then you didnt have to reply. Wouldnt give him to you anyway as youd probably nag the poor lad to death.

Guys, arguing wont get the poor kitty anywhere!

It's a pity the two males don't get on - sometimes it's just a clash of personalities and tbh the same thing happens with females too. Neutering will definitely help them, especially as they grow up, because they wont be so competitive about territory or the ladies. Most cats will also adapt really well to a dog and vice versa - it just takes a little work.

Cats are neutered very young in America but it is a very topical issue with plenty of scientific information to support doing this but also plenty suggesting it's not such a great idea. It depends who you want to believe!

Over here you would be hard pushed to find a vet comfortable with neutering a cat at by 8 weeks, for a lot of reasons. Remember, a major part of the concern is the anaesthetic and a lot of the anaesthetic drugs and monitoring equipment used routinely in the US is not so widely available here. So it can depend on a lot of factors. Yes 6 months is often reccommended but you will probably find a fair few vets willing to neuter, especially a male cat, now the cat is about 4 months.

As for vaccination the little guy should be getting the shots now definitely - they usually start from about 9 weeks but it varies with the brand used. However it is not possible to have a cat fully vaccinated by 6 weeks according to manufacturers instructions. A course of vaccination may begin that early if the kitten is at risk but they will definitely need vaccinating again - primary vaccination is supposed to consist of at least 2 injections separated by about 2/3 weeks depending on brand. According to best practice a cat's final primary vaccination course should be no earlier than 12 weeks for all brands.

Good luck finding a home for the little fella Coolhand. :) I already have 5 and dog to look after so I'm afraid I can't help.

Coolhand--Ktric was only trying to help and as a matter of fact he did say he was interested in the kitten.

Loose the attitude or dont bother posting here anymore.

Consider this a first and last warning.Im not banning you straight away since you`re new to boards.

thanks nando for the advice. Its fine you cant help home him as you already have plenty of animals already you are good enough to look after.

Hellrazer i aint someone who wants to have a big argument here on boards. I just want to try and find a little kitten a home. Ktric was being smart and we both know that. Anyway lets not go on about it as the kitten homing is my priority.

Coolhand, KTRIC wasn't being smart, and the way you say hadn't asked for a cat and feel you're being very good to home the ones you have, as well as pointing out that you could have had them put to sleep if you wanted to, makes me uncomfortable. I'd take the kitten in a flash if you lived in an area that's convenient to my parents' house, but they're in Cork.

All i said was that i took in a stray which was decent of me i do believe. Anyhow have got a good home sorted now so the kitten will be fine. His new home sounds perfect. I was very selective in finding him a home through the whole process as he is a lovely little cat. Just wanted to let youse know that he is going to be fine. Thanks for the advice everyone.
