So as not to start a "similiar" thread, do they offer much chances for overtime if you are in a CS or admin role?

no i am not , just looking into career options and do not want to find myself working flat out in the hope of maybe earning circa 85000.

stepbar your work for boi right whats the career progression like there where do you see yourself in ten years .

Also what the promotion ratio like in BOI , it seems about 18 months before you get a chance of being promoted from starting as graduate. Do you only get your share options in year 2 etc and whats the craic with if you want to do a masters , can you do that part time straight away and they subsidies it or do you have to wait abit.

    Love to get some feedback.

Ok my apologies. Business Banking is my field. Ive gone in as a Business Manager Assistant. One up is a Business Manager, then Senior Business Manager, then Regional Business Manager and once you get that far there's not too many jobs above you, Head of Business Banking and then Director of Business Banking above that. They have told us that in theory we should be pushing for BM roles after 3 years but in reality it could be longer than that, one person Ive been told about that has done the same 3 year program has only been recently only promoted to a BM role in year 5.Now its different at the lower levels, AFAIK there is Branch Officer, Senior Branch Officer and god knows how many routes after that. However the BMA (me) and the SBO, payscale wise are the same AFAIK.

Im not sure if I qualify for free bonus shares this year (6% of gross salery I think) but I qualify for an SAYE (Save as you earn) scheme where by I put away 100 quid a month for 3 yrs. At the end of 3 years I have an option to purchase shares with the lump sum. The price at which I purchase at is set before I enter the scheme. I can also enter the scheme next year, the following year and so on.

As for further studies I have to do the bankers exams (i.e the QFA) which is a requirement for all bank staff who hope to give financial advise / get an opportunity to get promoted! If you wanted to do a masters you would have to put forward a business case for doing it if you wanted the bank to pay for it. However the bank will pay for all of the bankers exams that you want to do (assuming that they are relivant to your job).

    Hope that helps.

cheers stepbar for the feedback , are you given a choice as to where you want to go or are you rotated at the start to see what you like and then can select what area of the bank you want to go into eg in your case Business Banking etc.. and if so what made you chose business banking section. Also how are you finding it , are you enjoying the work etc.. Looking at the BOI salary excess of 27,000 plus Merit increases of up to 8% per annum at the start seems higher than AIB , was this true.

TBH I havent a clue at this stage, there's 10 of us on the program and knowbody seems to know where they will be in 3 months time (I started in oct). There is a plan to have 3 rotations of 6 months each but where they will be I dont know. I started off in a branch in dublin along with everyone else. Salary wise you are bang on the money (no excess thats the salary), salary increases are on a 5 point scale based on your performance - 0% for 1 up to 8% for excellent. However staff will say its hard to get the full increase.

The work is fine to date, its not that hard yet but there is a lot of paperwork and lots to learn about. There is a big emphasis on having all the i's dotted and the t's crossed if you know what I mean. Big time.

thanks again , i'll do some more research , looks like ulster bank also pay abit more closer than 30000 aswell.

yeah thought it would be hard to get 8% increase , as you are only starting how can they grade you if you are rotated its not like you can go out and hussle for new business accounts etc if your only an Assistant

TBH its not really a hard sales job (maybe for the likes of bos and ulster etc it is) because any accounts opened are usually through referals etc (not wanting to go to much into the process). I wouldnt be expected to go out and get business or get a client base. The Business Manager inherits it or grows it over time. All you have to do really is match the needs of the customer to the products on offer and do your best. Your not allowed missell products, you have to be shocking careful to make sure you are giving the right advise. The Business manager is like the link between the bank, its services and the customer. The business manager can suggest products and put the customer in the direction of better advise (e.g Investment mgr for pensions, savings mgr for savings etc). Or they can sort out menial problems such as getting standing orders setup etc.
