    Guys,
I have a Sky Box from an old installation, It is a UK box and it has the standard free UK stations, now this box would not have been connected to a phone line in about 3 years.
Now is there any advantage or disadvantage in connecting this to a phone line,
I don't have C4 on this box, do I need to connect to the phone line to get this?

The phone line is used for interactive services. Multi-room subscribers must have all boxes connected to the same operating line or else they face paying multiple subscriptions.

Connecting to a phone line won't get you channel 4. It's encrypted. You'll need a UK free-to-view card for that. This will also give you the UK Sky EPG.

Failing that, you could take out a minimal Irish subscription as C4 has recently been added to the Irish EPG.

You don't need a UK card for a UK EPG except on a few Digiboxes.
A FTV card gives C4, Five, Five US, Five Live, Sky 3.

Watty, I have no card at all really, I have an Irish card which I had in an Irish box about 4 years, I cancelled the account about 4 years ago, so then I got a hold of this UK box, without a card, I connected this up and I had the BBC's, UTV's etc.
No C4, Five, Sky 3 etc

Yop the sky fta box system can be used with or without a UK sky fta card. The card is only there to supply the following stations C4, Five, Five US, Five Live, Sky 3.

Without the card you will have other stations like bbcs and utvs along with many more stations.

If you want the UK sky yellow house FTA card i have one which i am about to sell.

If you are interested in this let me know.

Pedant: It's not an FTA card - FTA channels do not need a card. It's a FTV card or "Freesat from Sky" card. ;)

No trading in here please (though you may trade by PM, otherwise adverts.ie).

Of course, do NOT connect the box to a phoneline if you plan using the FTV/Freesat from Sky viewing card!
