Has anyone else here spent all their money ?

**** for brains here has spent the bonus, wages AND overdraft, beating my record time and minusing the account for the month ahead before it has even begun. Havent yet paid off the maxed out credit card or bills for the month...

Please tell me Im not the only one.

I'm not doing so bad. I have spent most of my wages but I've had a few wins on the ponies and that can keep me going until this Friday, when I get paid again. :) When's your next pay date?

In nearly 4 weeks time :(

I think next pay day I'll buy that book on how to save (forgot the name). Its getting ridiculous at this stage.

    I feel shame

That is indeed shocking OP. I hope you have something to show for it - or at least bloody brilliant memories of Christmas to keep you warm & fed for the rest of the month :p

Not doing too badly here myself. Funds are definitely lower than they should be for this time of the month, but I should be able to scrape by with a night or two on the beer.

Im actually OK, didnt go to mad in the sales and had set aside an extra €200 because I knew I'd blow the rest of my money... and I was correct!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,062 ✭✭✭✭tk123

I haven't spent that much yet down to laziness i haven't been in the sales yet -thou it wouldn't be hard to spend my 'bonus' - 30 quid in bonus bonds!! I'M RICH!!!!!!!!!

Funnily enough this was the first crap Christmas & New Years I've ever had. Nothing to show for it as was mostly food & drink I spent it on which has all been consumed leaving me feeling like a fat broke loser. So much for my giving up chocolate I will be living off the selection boxes I got for Christmas (sjones, please send the selection box swiftpost asap. thanks)

I tried to avoid the overspend mayhem this Christmas / New Years, and it's paid off! I avoided the sales, and me account is pretty healthy and ready for a few weekends away in January / Feb & March! Sweet :D
So many people just spend on useless junk and wonder why they're broke now.

I'm nearly out of money. I'm still living of the money I had saved up from my job last year. After these poxy January exams, I'm off job hunting again.

Thank God I'm not the only one SystemError!

I spent every penny I have (and I also maxed out my CC...) and now that my account is at 0, the direct debits have started coming in! I'm in the negative even though I have no overdraft set up! My bank is now going to penalise me for every day I am in the negative... :(

Oh well... At least I have something to show for it... Namely a new PC, new LCD monitor and new leather couch!

I'll be grand sure... Next pay day is only in 22 days!

Well at least if you have no money for more drinking/eating out you won't be a 'fat broke loser' by the end of January :D In fact you could set Jan aside as a month to get fit & get rid of the extra pounds from Christmas (have to try this one myself  )

I'll be voting in the election this year for the party that makes January a two week month - roll on PayDay.

Great minds miamee, just finished planning out an 8 week fitness plan. Although I only put on 1lb which is a miracle. Must have been all that shopping....

jimmycrackcorm: Lets all go on strike for the cause. I say we should also change the structure of "The Week" as we know it. We should get at least 3 days for our weekend. Either adding Friday or Monday to our weekend, or making "Funday" the 3rd weekend day of an 8 day week .
And another thing: In South America you get paid monthly 13 times during the year. You get double salary, plus a Christmas bonus come the end of the year. We should really take a page from the latino book (siesta = genius)

Oh if I was a politician

Yes OP there are a few of us like yourself!

Well i decided to be smart & buy all the pressies on my Credit Card nearly maxed it but when i got paid from work i paid the CC off not realising how many Direct debits that went through before new years!!
So yes im broke now too but at least i've the CC bill cleared to show for it (",)

Didn't spend a massive amount, credit card has a limit of around 500 eurons so that stops me from buying more worthless gadgets that are sitting around the house. Bank account is healthy enough, funds are lower than usual though.

Alas very broke at this stage, spent too much on pressies, going out,got one or two things for myself, and im feeling the pinch now.

Thankfully getting paid on thursday, but its saving time at the moment so the next while is going to be a little tough. As long as i still get a few nights out it will be happy days, but time will tell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Busterpuss

bought all my pressies in november, so december didnt have anything to buy so bought a few more additions to pressies whacked money off my cc, and bought myself a few pressies. i have quite a bit to get me through but there wont be any nights on the beers either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭daiixi

Mmm spent more monies on holiday than I wanted but just transferred funds from savings account to personal account and am fine until next pay day which is next Thursday. Credit card is pretty healthy at the moment and not due until the end of the month - after the following pay day. :)

Ive got the solution ! Sarting Feb/Mar, every month I'll to buy each member of my family a Christmas present**. That way, come next January I will be swimming in "One million dollers ! MUAH-AH-AH" (Dr Evil accent)

**This will probably not happen as I more than likely will have forgotten about this idea by that time.

Oh I knew a few major things were coming up this month. January is always the hardest month of the year for me because everything hits you like a train.
    Car Tax
    DOE
CC Bill, the middle of the month.

I'm moving off from work to college on the 8th and I'll be getting more money out of it aswell per week. Hopefully that should help.

Why don't you suggest to your family that they do Secret Santa next year - everyone draws a name out of a hat, put a limit on the present i.e. €60 and each person give three ideas of what they'd like for their present. That way everyone gets something that they want and noone spends a fortune.

When I was working in Austria, it was even better. There were 14 pay months in a year. Double time for the month of December (to help with christmas) and Double time in June (to help with summer holidays). Wouldn't work in Ireland with that pesky minimum wage though :(

i just spent €3k on the thing in my sig, so my bank account is almost empty now

somehow managed to only spend €10 on new years eve... pretty damn happy with that considering I had €200 in my wallet at the time:D
Crimbo was another story though... that was easily the most expensive I've ever had, and the largest ESB bill I've ever had has just been taken out of my account...

I still have some money left but as soon as a couple of hefty bills are paid off soon i'll be pretty much skint.

    Christmas is costly.
