I think Perlico are an Eircom re-seller so the 25 euro Eircom branded Netopia one should do you grand.

Here is a link, they are sold in Pc World shops nation wide (I sound like an ad :P)

Don't worry they actually cost 25 and you just walk up to the counter and buy it.

I have BT broadband at the min (ZyXel Prestige 600 modem - not wireless). Any recommendations?! Could I switch to wireless without too much fuss?

I have a Zyxel prestige 650H-E1 ADSL 4-Port Router and went wireless with a Linksys WAP54G Wireless access point

Is it definetly a Broadband adapter or is it a Router? If its just an adapter then you wont be able to use a wireless access point but you will be able to use a non ADSL/DSL wireless router with your existing setup. If so you will be looking for a basic wireless router, which are usually marketed as Wireless Routers for cable customers.

Its just the standard ZyXel modem that came with the bb bundle, so i dont think that has any wireless possibilities.

So do you mean that with my current ADSL 2mb connection....I can just buy a wireless router....without having to contact BT or eircom....and I will have wireless connectivity just like that?? (Apologies if it seems like a very basic query but I have yet to look into this much)

The wireless router is just changing your normal communication signals to a different form like a wireless telephone does so you don't have to contact either provider before setting it up.

Get the Eircom one I posted earlier. It will work with your BT you just have to change the username and password :D.

I'm not sure what settings are required for either ISP but if you buy a ADSL Wireless Router, you will have to replace your existing setup completely. you will have to re enter any login and connection setting details again into the new ADSL router (this can be a problem sometimes as people dont remember them)

What i suggested, will work with your existing setup. a wireless router will connect to your broadband adapter, it will then share your existing internet connection with any wireless enabled pc or device

Lastly, i always wondered why broadband adapters were marketed as modems when they clearly aren't modems

    The first one is perfect.

The second one is a wireless PCI card for a PC, so is no good for you, unless you have a PC and a wireless router, and want the PC wireless. (Pointless unless you NEED it wireless, the network cable will be better, but this card wouldn't let you use your Wii wirelessly)

    Yes that one will do.

It should have a setup wizard which will tell you exaclty how to connect it and set it up, I do think its worth a mention that i have actually used the NETGEAR Wireless Router 54 Mbps 802.11g and it basically shows you everything you have to do from the setup wizard

Below is a quick diagram in paint i made

    untitledid5.jpg

This is how you will connect them. Your adapter wont be connected to the pc directly anymore, it will be connected to the router and the router will then be connected to the pc

The €24.99 eircom router will work fine with wii on a BT broadband connection , there is a thead on it's set up over in the tech forum / net-comms / wireless here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=52315561&postcount=16 It took me 15 minutes to set up and secure. and the wii worked on it out of the box all i needed to do was enter the wpa password.

That was at my parents house over xmas back in my own place , i use a dlink G700ap access point on a digi web connection, this took some playing around with and only worked when i set the wireless on it to channel one set up on that was pretty ok aswell that cost approx €40 last year on komplett iirc

I'm with calex71, the eircom router is pretty much plug and play, and at 24.99 it's hard to beat value wise.

Picked one up last week and have been very happy with it.

Thanks all, v helpful info there.
I think ill go with the eircom one so...sounds pretty straight forward and at €25 looks v good....half the price of the D-Link I was lookin at on komplett

Has anyone connected the Wii to the internet who hasn't used a router to convert a ASDL signal. I am just getting the internet specifically for the Wii but don't want to go through NTL cable or phone line, simply because I think the purely wireless options may be cheaper - if i get an ASDL connection then I'll have to get a wireless router as well. Can anyone help me or give me some suggestions, be much appreaciated...cheers.
