    hi every1

my mum bought herself a pansonic mp3 player the other day and now wants me to upload podcasts, etc onto it. i have an ipod so i have no idea what im doing

i installed the cd and connected the player using the usb cable. i then went into itunes and downloaded a few podcasts. itunes wasnt recognising the player but when i opened my windows media player and went into the sync section of this, it allowed me to select a playlist to upload to the mp3 player and i did this (seclecting the podcats i had previously downloaded). i uploaded from the computer to the mp3 player and whilst this was happening it said on the mp3 player screen downloading- i took this to mean that the podcasts were going into the mp3 player but no when i turned the mp3 player on it said there was nothing on the mp3 player to play. i tried this 2-3 times- each time unsuccessfully.

can someone please help me and my ignorance, can podcasts not be played on some mp3 players or am i doind something wrong.....i dont think i am beacuse the mp3 player screen says downloading and according to the instructions it is supposed to say this when you are uploading songs to it

    thanks for the help

Does the player play AAC? Perhaps it's not recognising the format? All iTunes audio is AAC AFAIK.

You should be able to convert the AAC files to MP3 pretty easily using a program, can't think of any good, free ones right now, however...

Podcasts are just audio files, same as music, so it's not like the player can't specifically play podcasts.

You can get Podcasts elsewhere that are in MP3 format, I'm not experienced with Podcasts so I don't know exactly where but they should be easy to find.

Have you tried uploading music MP3s to it yet btw?

on the instructions it recommends windows media player to use when downloading and i have just tried to download a song from the Windows media player to the mp3 player and again it is saying downloading on the screen but then when i press play, it says there is nothing on the mp3 player

What is your level of computer literacy like? Do you know what file extentions(.exe, .mp3 etc.) are? Do you know where the folder in which the files you download from iTunes is?

In any case, try ripping a CD with Windows Media Player(It rips to WMA by default but you can change it to MP3 if you wish) and uploading it to the MP3 player, if it works then it's most likely a file type issue.

Basically if you want Podcasts you're gonna have to download them from somewhere other than iTunes(unless iTunes does MP3s, I don't think it does) and you're going to have to rip any CDs you want to use with this player on Windows Media Player. Or else you can get a program and learn how to convert the AAC files you get from iTunes into MP3s.

thanks for your help. unfortunately i dont really understand a word that you said. i get that the files im downloading to the mp3 player arent compatible and i am trying to find podcasts that are in mp3 format- im using the bbc website. my mum is mainly interested in podcats she wouldnt really appreciate music- nothing is ever simple! so im gonna try and download mp3 podcasts but on my windows media player, the podcasts which i downloaded using itunes, when i right click the podcast, under type it says mp3 so i dont understand why it wont play on the mp3 player.

When you browse the files on the MP3 player, when you're in windows are they showing up as MP3's? , Nevermind while browsing in windows media player. Make sure you're not making shortcuts, i've seen many a person do that.

''When you browse the files on the MP3 player, when you're in windows are they showing up as MP3's?''

BoobeR im not sure if i have misubderstood your post or if you have misunderstood mine but there is nothing on the mp 3 player hence my post. The point of my previous post was to say that on the windows media player various podcasts are coming up as mp3 and the mp3 player that i have is compatible with mp3 files. the files seem to download into the player as it says download on the mp3 player sceen when i connect it to the computer and click 'sync with player' yet despite all this when i turn the mp3 player on there is nothing there and this also happens with music files.

so please can someone help me because i am running out of ideas.

the podcasts are coming up as mp3 files but wont play on the player.

i then went onto the bbc website and clicked on podcasts and it recommended a program called 'juice' which i installed and again i downloaded podcasts but when it supposedly downloads to the mp3 player nothing plays..........................help

im seriously running out of ideas

    thanks

What does the manual say exactly about adding songs to the player?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭catherine22

it doesn't. the manual is a 2sided A4 page that basically lists accessories and then says that the player is compatible with windows media player, etc and that when you install the disc it will run automatically, etc

it then says open the player folder (which i have done)- a screen appears and there is a folder in it (one of the yellow ones) and then you are supposed to drag across the files that you want to load to the mp3 player.

so i have done that and the screen appears and there is 2 files in it (2 podcasts i have previously tried to upload and they say mp3 files beside them) but yet there is nothing on the actual mp3 player

i think i am following the instructions........yet nothing

So you've put mp3 fles on without using windows media player?

yes and no i have tried it both ways

i originally did it the way it said on the instructions using the 'player' folder and dragging the files across.............but that didnt work so i opened my windows media player and went into 'sync' ,'edit playlist', 'start sync' and it detected the mp3 player that was attached with the usb cable and the two podcasts were supposedly uploaded to the mp3 player.

so i have done it two ways and when i go back into the windows media player and cick on these two particular podcasts- its says that it has already been scycronised to the device

    sorry for the confusion

should i start from scratch again?????

im getting so confused with all this, surely it should be easier than this???

its a pansonic sv-sw20 i think, i mean they are widely sold- its just anyone i know has ipods and uses itunes

should i maybe burn the podcasts to a cd and then rip it back to the computer and then try and sync it again with the mp3 player- i dont know why this would work but i am fast running out of ideas
