Hi guys, just to let interested parties know we will be running the first novice Muaythai show of 2007 in Galway on the weekend of March 3/4th 2007. There will also be a referee and judges course (both Part 1 and 2) run by Kru Tony Myers as well as a Muaythai course covering basics and also how to score well in a contest along with what doesn't score well from a Muaythai perspective. The Irish Muaythai Council is looking to expand its membership and invites interested parties to come along or contact us. This is a letter from Sean Dillon outlining a number of important points for the coming year, and for a meeting of the IMC in January in Carlow, anyone interested in any of this can contact ANY member of the IMC for further details.

There is a meeting arranged for the 21st of January in which ALL clubs have been invited. I hope ALL clubs will come to this meeting unlike previous meetings. This will be the most important meeting in the council’s history to date.
There will be a list of items up for discussion, some discussed on this forum One is membership of the Sports Council and a separate section for Muaythai on the Martial Arts Commission leading to Government recognition this is made possible through membership of the World Muaythai Council thus one of the reasons for the need for sanctioning fees. Title fights will be another issue. Especially the criteria fighters will have to meet to fight for an Irish title ie.number of fights how many 5x2 and 5x3 needed etc before they qualified. Also the new ranking system, licenses and medicals etc.
Also the Judges and referees panel needs to be organised all of which will have to have done the approved WMC courses. One is going on at present phase 1 was in November, phase 2 is on the same day as Dave Joyce’s novice show on March 3rd&4th with the final phase 3 in April in Carlow, these will be under the official WMC instructor Tony Myers.
It is also hoped that their will be more novice shows for up coming and C class fighters in the New Year.
The WMC&IFMA itself is restructuring to some degree. The General Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF) has contacted them and wants them to unify there Muaythai group around the globe as they feel there is too many countries not promoting the sporting the same regulations. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it will be dropping some sports from the Olympics and this is going to leave the door open for the Amateur Muaythai section to become an Olympic sport in the Future. Muaythai has now been excepted into nearly all major world Games and in 2010 will be in the World Martial Arts Games
The WMC is only recognized Muaythai bodies all over the world. That’s why it’s important that we are part of it.
Hopefully all clubs will be represented at the meeting on the 21st so these aspects and more will be discussed and ALL clubs will work together for the betterment of Muaythai in Ireland.

    President: Mr Sean Dillon

Hiya Cowzerp, as long as your club becomes part of the IMC (fighters as you may have read in the piece have to be registered and licenced in order to fight on IMC events pro or novice) there is no problem with anyone compeating. The council does not interfere in any way with the running of clubs.
