    Found this on qjnet forums:

    http://forums.qj.net/f-wii-accessories-mods-media-111/t-wii-media-player-86865.html

You can stream audio and video to your wii using the orbcast program.
Just d/l,setup a user name and login, tell it where your media files are on your pc.Open your wii browser and go to the orbcast site and you can stream all your media to the wii.

Movies are a bit crap on it at the minute ie very pixelated and the picture is squashed looking but its being worked on.The registry edit makes them watchable but you have to set the defalut streaming out put to flash in the configuration page.

    Mp3s play 100%.
Definatley a recommended program for the wii.

I've been using Orb (www.orb.com) for the longest time so I try it with the Nintendo Wii Web Browser and it worked!! Audio streaming works fine with out any tweaks, but for video you must manul setup video streaming using flash thur the wii. Then you must set orb to use a lower codec so the wii doesn't freeze during video playing. Here this tweak I found posted on orb support forum. After that fix the only problem i'm having is the text is to small.
Open regedit on the PC where Orb is installed.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwa re\Orb Networks\Orb\OrbStreamer you will find a "HQFlash" key with value 1. Delete this key and restart Orb.
For information this key sets Orb to encode in Flash using a better quality codec whenever possible, and this codec might not be compatible with the Wii Flash version. Removing this key will default to a lesser quality encoder which is more likely to be compatible. .

Now I have access to all my media. Enjoy

I was surprised that the Wii couldn't play CDs as well as DVDs; even the xbox could do that without the dongle...
I hope there'll be a proper software download available in the near future to let you play music or video from SD cards (or even mp3 players attached via USB), this will have to do until then, though!

Wii already plays certain types of movies (I think it's motion JPEGs)

Anyhow Wii Video 9 is free and will convert DivX movies into the correct format, so you can play them off your Wii :)

If you used video9 to convert a movie and then streamed it to the wii would it play correctly??Or does it have to be on a SD card??

Dunno to be honest. I haven't looked into streaming....
It would be easier to get a 1GB SD card - I got one on eBay for £12 including shipping.
I've bought multiple memory cards off the same seller - this guy and he's been very fast and reliable. To be honest - that's the way I'd go.

Can anyone tell me if the Wii will take miniSD (with a "SD size" adapter) just the same, and play a video9-reencoded movie off it?

That would be fairly amazing (my DS supercard already uses miniSD and it would save me having to hook up my AV400 all the time).

Erm... actually... come to think of it, one up from that: anyone know if the "Wii video9" reencoding is the same as for reencoding movies for playback on the DS?

    That would be downright astounding...

I tried to convert a movie using video 9 last night but it ended up 4 times the size of the original.
Original movie was 700mb and the output from video 9 was 2.2gb.Any ideas?
Btw I was using the default settings and outputting as mjpeg(I think)Any got a setting they use to keep size down to a minimum??

Unless you put the quality down alot (think WiiVideo9 only has 2 standards of quality) the file size will always be huge as the Wii doesn't support proper compressed video files (DivX, Xvid etc...)
