    I am thinking of using my media center as the house pc, and buying a 360 and using it as a media extender
    it will be on a wired network,

    it will give me a good excuse to upgrade the media center (RAID0 anyone :) ) and will look tidier then the pc case beside the telly

    just wondering ....

    so currently i have
    XP media center -> tv

    but i am thinking off...
    xp mediacenter -> 100base etherenet -> xbox 360 ->tv

    My Question...

    can i schedule recordings?

    whats playback quality like?

    will the media centers remote work the xbox360?

    will a vanilla xbox360 core system work as an extender, or does it need memory?

    its a frontend for MCE so you can do most things. Watch live TV, recorded TV and schedule recordings. You can watch Divx Xvid etc with some trickery know as transcode360. Playback quality is fine, no worse no better than your MCE machine.

    100Mb is more than adequate. Later on if you add mode nodes, consider using 1Gb ethernet at the backend and 100Mb on all the clients. This will ensure 100% availability.

    I'm assuming you plan using RAID 0 for capacity, as its would be pointless for peformance in this case.

    thanks for the reply

    i am going to use the pc as my desktop too, so i'll need loads of storage for mce and loads of speed for pc usage

    well instead of buying a 360, i download mce extender for the orininal xbox, and it is brilliant, its just what i was looking for
    its 2 apps one for the xbox and one for the pc, and the original xbox dvd remote can control it so it cost me nothing to set up

    i can pause and rewind live tv
    got the guide
    schedule recordings
    watch all the taped shows
    quality is not great, but okay for a 28 inch crt (definately no hi def)
    going to buy 3 more xboxs, and another prv500 and set a media center up for every telly in the house

    all for less then the price of 2 360 cores
