Drivers for Nvidia and ATI graphics cards would be handy I suppose...
And the December update of DirectX (don't think it's included in windows update)

Combined Community Codec pack is handy, but only really useful for anime fans...

Not just get hiren boot cd or Ultimate boot cd?

Save you a lot of time :)

Or just a WinXp image with Nlite with most of the above in a complete ISO.

My Xp disc has almost al of the above with a few other programs. Once the disc is popped in and booted from next time i see is when windows is done with preloaded programs.

Kind of related for repair and recovery, I have used Ultimate Boot CD in the past and has worked well.

    edit: snap.

i will stick the boot pc software on it. but it is meant for pcs that are working(ish) and to repair it. Will i set a limit on how big the iso should get?

Thats where problems occur not every pc/laptop has DVD booting ability so some need CD which hinders size.

I have a mega turbo ultimate boot cd thingie that i got in Russia has Hiren and about 6 other boot cds all in one, its a problem and hardware fixing thing.

I also use the Nlite XP ISO which is 2gb atm and contains my own legit corporate key for unattended setup.

And a USB Hard Drive with latest files and generic drivers.

Some firewalls might be useful too, ZoneAlarm, Comodo Firewall, Kerio Personal Firewall maybe.

Autopatcher is handy when you have to do a full reinstall and need to get all the updates etc rapidly.

i wonder can autopatcher download all the updates and have them in the iso, so they dont need to be downloaded everytime you run the pc?

Autopatcher...as far as I know....does not do that.
When you need to reinstall XP it will patch the initial install up to the latest updates. I always have the latest Autopatcher version on a CD in case I need it. They release either a new version or an update to the last version about once each month.

I do a few reinstalls for both myself and other folks and it saves so much time.

anyone who uses this should stick a copy of smart boot manager in the jewel case with the CD, it can boot from any device, and you'd be shocked the lengths peope go to when they haven't heard of it.

I always get the full version...200mb plus D/L but you don't have to download it too often...they give updates when needed.

One thing that would be very handy to you is to download the latest definitions for AVG, Spybot, Adaware etc. A friend got a new pc yesterday and he asked me to put some antivirus/anti spyware on it for him.

So I downloaded the latest AVG Free 7.5 and put Spybot and Ad-aware on my memory stick and downloaded the definitions for them. This way when I loaded in the software I was able to update it straight away as it would taken nearly three hours to download all the definitions on the dial-up. Generally when you load in a new programme like them the definitions files are massive at the start but to update regularly then isn't too bad. It would save alot of time I'd imagine.

Be bit of a pain of a butt to have to update the ISO on a regular basis (considering AVG updates are released daily). A monthly update would prob suffice, considering that the people most likely to download it have broadband.

I am going to have cd patches, the download will come in a rar, and use the windows burner to keep adding to it, so once i release an update you just burn over the previous installer. and it will work :), ive thought this through allready
